What do you store all your gear in?

SL888 (what's your name by the way - don't be so shy :p)

I have just taken a couple of snapshots for you, so excuse the quality. Hopefully they will give you some sort of idea.

I'm not sure what a normal lens is, but I guess you mean not massive ones. If so then 3 bodies and 10 relatively small ones would be okay.

Looking down in to the 1620 with the top section removed.

1D4 with 300/2.8 II attached.
1D4 battery charger and AA/AAA charger.
5D3 with 24-105 attached.
Manuals and card case.
70-200/2.8 II (in it's case).
200/2.0.
580EX II and 430EX II

With top section in

Chargers, extenders, batteries, 40/2.8 etc etc

Standing next to a 1550 Peli case.

Note that the Peli cases are heavy before you even put anything in them BUT once in they are well protected  & Peli's have lifetime guarantees.
My name is Simon. Appreciate the pics. Yeah I meant not massive ones like your 300/2.8 II and 200/2.0. ;) Good to know the 200/2.0 will fit vertically in the side. Someday I will have that lens.

I picked up an old used bookcase today. Will hopefully look after my storage needs for another wee while. Thankfully it has some doors so will help keep the kids sticky fingers from my gear for a little while.

I have a Peli monster trunk that I bought s/h on here. It weighs 20 kilos empty(!) Almost everything lives in there, although typically camera + a lens or two will be in the bag as I'm lazy about putting stuff away

Everything (with the exception of studio gear) gets stored in a Lowepro computrekker plus aw. This is either taken to a shoot or I unload the bits I need into one of a couple of different bags depending on what I need to carry.

Studio gear is then split into two bags, one large box bag for two heads, reflectors, cables and all other bits. Then a stand holdall for the stands, softboxes, and umbrellas.

I saw the dehumidifier case and like that but way over my budget - instead a good idea is to put bags of silica gel in with any stored products, especially if you've been shooting outside in wet or damp conditions.

I haven't actually got my camera yet but when I do (in about 2 weeks) I will use the bags of silica gel I have kicking around and store them with that.

Most electrical appliances come with a bag of silica in with the product for use during transport.

OMG aren't you all organised

Mines usually scattered all about the place

That's why I created this thread. Mine has been scattered about the house for years too. It's just been getting ridiculous though. Cables, cloths, lenses, filters, more cables! chargers, batteries, boxes ... everywhere you look. Or so the missus tells me, I hardly notice :D

Time to keep it all in check. And it doesn't have to cost much either. The desk I ordered was from Argos, about £130 or something. It has 2 side cabinets and drawers. It'll act as my little work station. Need to get a good chair though.

I use a large Maplin case for primary camera and common lenses (24-70/80-200/14-24) and kept alongside everything else stacked upstairs where its safer from theft. However the stack is now rather large including flight cases, bags, rolling cases etc.

Nice. For those prices I might grab one of each

For my purposes it does the job fine. I've stored stuff on it, stood on it etc and I believe it's waterproof also (I've not tested that personally). If you are going into warzones or there's risk of serious high impact then it may be better to look at alternatives but it's not like we are storing live explosives so I don't need the ultimate - at a nice premium as well!. Check out this guy who water tested it somewhat: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=REORAz664hw

Size wise for the big case, I can get two D3 bodies, 24-70mm, 80-200mm, a few extra D3 batteries, caps, CF cards (about 14 of them) and there's room for a little more. The smaller case is handy for flash guns, AA batteries, triggers, extra lenses (eg. 50mm) etc.

The smaller case is nowhere near as solid, but if it's hand luggage on a plane it's perhaps a good alternative to a padded bag?

That's exactly what I was thinking for the smaller case, flashes and cables. I have 3 flash units currently, and even in the think tank struggle to get them in neat with the D800, 3 lenses, and my old D90 in there already. Though I have some video equipment in that too - Rode mic and headphones.

The Magnum 400 AW weighs 2.4kg and has similar internal dimensions if you were clever with the foam in the case. I like the cases as it's easy access, no rubbing together of parts and you can spot straight away if something is missing. But obviously the situation is important, I wouldn't like to hump a case about in the hills at my destination! lol

The norm is 10kg carry. You can always stick a flash and lens into your main baggage. Sure, it's nicer and safer to keep with you, but if you really want to take more gear along on the journey you just have to take that risk. There is another thread about carry on allowances though. This one is for home storage ;) so no limitations.

The norm is 10kg carry.

It might have been at one time but it's drifting down. On recent flights we've had:
Iberia 8kg
LAN 8kg
Emirates 7kg
Kingfisher Red 7kg
Air India 8kg
Qatar 7kg
SAS 8kg
Spice Jet 7kg

I'm heading to NYC in December, I checked Aerlingus today, 10kg carry on. It was the same when we went to Manchester earlier this summer. I took my camerabag on board and I'd weighed it at over 8kg. And that was Ryanair! Notorious for cutting corners and charging extras.

Arrgh, is Emirates only 7kg?!!! Damn.

I'm off to Mexico soon (package holiday) and the carry on is a measly 5kg, so looks like I won’t be using my Lowerpro case to carry my gear seeing as that clocks in at 4.7kg by itself! :(

Arrgh, is Emirates only 7kg?!!! Damn.

Yes, and we're flying out to Kuala Lumpur, New Zealand and Bangkok with them. We'll be gone for over three weeks and the extra carry-on would have been useful (especially as I'll be taking my new 5D3 and 24-105 along with my existing 60D kit).

Crazy limit for long-haul flights on an A380: it's hardly a tiny aircraft!

At the moment, a Billingham 555 shoulder bag which is a sheer waste (so its up for sale). Then I'll use a Calumet rolling case insert which fits neatly into a normal rolling case so I can drag my gear without it looking like a camera bag.

Does the roller insert come as a stand alone bag with dividers, or is it just the foam dividers?

I use a big, multi-compartment box made out of stone, brick and wood. My wife refers to it as 'the house'.

Steve.

I store most of my gear in a Peli Storm iM2950, with quite a few packs/sachets of silica-gel thrown in. Still use the odd drawer around the house though for cables, batteries, chargers etc.

I currently use a Lowepro Commercial AW to keep most of my major kit together, with some additional kit overflowing into a Think Tank Streetwalker Pro HD and Domke F2 (I have an Airport International and a Peli 1510 for Carry On). But most of my 'spare' stuff goes into an upright 4 drawer plastic roller for storage http://www.diy.com/nav/rooms/storag...k-Frame-Clear-Drawers-10617585?skuId=11108295

Clear fronts so I can see what's in there

Peli Storm iM2975 for storage at home and travel within the UK. Too damn big otherwise, and two x Peli 1510's elsewhere.

Holy thread revival Batman

Haha, sure is! Thought I entered a time warp!

I've long since gotten a good solid desk, that holds most of my gear. Been over and back from NYC, ahhh that's revived some memories, must go look back over my pics from that trip now ...
