Yes
Do you keep all your photos. I know harddrives are getting cheaper, but are you going to look at all of those 1000's of test shots ever again. I have 6000 raw+mirror JPEG images from travelling and it takes up a load of space. I have a final cut of over 500...shall i just brutally obliterate the other 5500?

I have a 1TB drive which cost me under £70. It has nearly 140,000 raw+jpgs + other jpgs occupying 740gb. I delete the technically flawed and obvious crap and keep the rest. I rarely delete pictures with family/friends on unless unviewable.

And yes, they are all backed up on to other drives and discs.

I currently have my files backed up in 3 places
1x 500Gb internal
1x 500Gb external
2x500Gb striped raid network attached.

Recently I have been reviwing all my old files and I am deleting all the 'howlers' and everything else stays. So if it is out of focus, very poor cropping, exposure blown then it goes. Otherwise it stays.

I'm currently running:

2x500gb sata drives in RAID
1x320gb external drive
1X500gb external drive
1TB drive which gets periodically backed with stuff from above and then switched off and stored elsewhere.

HTH

Cheers

I delete anything that i've deemed not processable, and by that, i mean non inspiring, and poo shots. The pics i like, i process, and keep those files. The other ones get deleted.

And i have a few HDDs.

I use an external HD's to keep my original images on and these are backed up onto another HD. Plus a DVD backup.

Yes drives are getting cheaper by the day, but every now and again I go back over the archives to re evaluate what I am keeping. It's funny how many near duplicates you find.

As I shoot RAW I tend to convert to DNG as this can reduce the file size by about 20% in many cases.

If you have drives with off line archives it's a good idea to run them up now and again to make sure they are in top notch condition.

Every shot I import into Lightroom is backed up on external drives, hen every so often I have a spring clean of Lightroom and get rid of any shots I've not used/can't see myself using, as I know I've always got the raw file stashed away somewhere.

I`ve kept all the stuff I`ve taken over the years, it`s backed up in three different places as well.

Like Richard above, I too have been reviewing what I`ve kept and my criteria for a keeper has definitely changed. Some of the stuff that I`ve kept in the past now goes straight in the bin, it doesn`t get a second glance. I`m looking at that like a good thing!

I have a 320GB External HD that has everything on it. And I also back everything up to DVD when I transfer to the 320GB HD.

I'm getting a 500GB soon that will run on a wireless network so I can access the files from anywhere.

It may seem a little much but i have lost a few drives in my time, as well as seeing other people lose work due to not keeping backups

2x 500GB Raid 1 mirror on main pc
2x 750GB Raid 1 mirror on server

2 x 250GB external drives for moving data and a duplicate of all my keepers at work in the back of the tape safe :D
