Yes
Not the deliciously eatable ones or the cartoon characters immortalised by the late Charles Schultz but the packing peanuts - the polystyrene horrors which burst out as soon as you open any boxes containing them.

As any who have followed my DPD saga you know i was waiting for some items which finally came.

Unfortunately so did the polystyrene horrors - so how do I get rid of them - I know they don't like petrol but think the neighbours, police, fire service might get a bit umpty if I tried dowsing them in it.

And my local council warns that I can't put them in the bin used for recycling plastic.

If I had a car I suppose I could go out one night with a few black bags full of them and gradually sprinkle them around the countryside but I suppose that might be considered a tad anti-social.

So my only realistic option is to bag them and put them in my household waste bin to go into landfills - where they will last presumably for thousands of years.

One other box I received seemed to have the best answer and the only vendor who did this.- shredded heavy cardboard in long strips - no problems there - straight into my recycling bin.

But the peanuts - well nuts to them - it's the landfill for them - unless anyone has a better idea?

Keep them to use when you need to package anything?

I thought they didn't like shredded stuff in the recycling as it clogs up the machines - although it probably varies according to the council as with all the other rules on what can and can't be recycled.

This.

We've got a box under the bed full of packing, old jiffy bags, reusable bubble wrap, old posting bags (turn them inside out and reuse) etc etc.

Otherwise we end up needing to post something and don't have any package, so end up buying it. Which is probably worse for the environment.

Not under the bed, but I recycle packaging too.

How about toilet tissue?

The white ones are made from potato starch and are safe to eat! Green ones are bio-degradable (they look a bit like a figure of 8) and if the white ones look like wotsits they can too (although there are different types)

I've been selling things on EBay recently and would gladly use them. If you were to offer them free to a collector via a local Facebook 'freecycling' group (for example) someone would take them I'm sure.
