One of my mates is a 'Blagger'.
Years back he got a job as a sound and lighting operator (No previous experience apart from doing a sound engineering course 5 yrs before).
He quickly realised it was a two man job, so rang me up offering me the job of the lighting operator! after 2 minutes he'd 'blagged' me into saying yes and i was on the train to Blackpool for 5 months!!
I'd never even seen a lighting board in my life! to cut a long story short, we managed fine, the boss/owner told me what he wanted for the show, and i did my best and he never found out/realised either of us had never done anything like this before!!
I know my experience is different from the OP's, but confidence is key.
Don't see my mate much, but last time we caught up, he'd just done all the sound (inside the stadium)for the Rugby world cup!!!
