Canon for the past 20 yrs, never had a need or urge to change.

The choice of camera is what one is happy with. Having built up a "kit" (ie lenses- flashguns etc) over time, the cost of changing from one make to another generally is too prohibitive.This is why choosing the right camera at the outset is more important than many realise.

I am and have been a Nikon owner and on my 3rd Nikon as upgrades, however there are times when I wish Nikon would produce comparable lenses with Canon, thinking now of the Canon 100-400mm lens in particular. The nearest Nikon version is the 80-400mm but is a slow screw drive and needs updating

That lens has been updated, but the replacement AF-S version is over £2000...

I shoot nikon (to answer the OP), mostly because I needed the weather sealing on lenses and bodies that was reliable enough to take out into any weather.

Nikon, because it sounds more Japanese and I prefer yellow than red.

Just my opinion though, I know lots of people like red.

Was a Canon user in the film and point n shoot days but I went the DSLR route back in 2008, I was focused on going Nikon with the D80. However, I didn't find the ergonomics to my liking and it also didn't have live view so upon the recommendation of the sales assistant and then trying out the 40D, it was clear which model suited me better.

I might have gone with Nikon when I changed careers but stayed with Canon because of the lens lineup. Now I doubt if I will consider changing brands. The 5D Mk3 suits most of my shooting needs and I'm very happy with it as my main body. Had I gone with the D80 back in '08, it might have been a different story. I'm pretty comfortable with Canon.

I shoot nikon but I do envy some of the canon lens lineup. Canon TSE lenses in particular are excellent.

Poll doesn't have multiple entries : I ticked "other" but also use Panasonic, but had to leave it empty.
If anyone else is like me then the whole poll is going to be horribly skewed.

Same here, silly poll that is going to have no real result.

While I use Canon for DSLR, I also have Panasonic m4/3rds gear and Canon, Minolta, Pentax and Olympus film bodies as well.

So, even though nominally a Canon or Panasonic user (depending on what I want to carry) if talking digital, I ticked other as it only allowed one choice.
