Yes
forgive me if this starts an argument. But i just had to ask out of curiousity and a bit more...

what do you use???or what would you rather use?

i cant vote in the poll yet, but I use Nikon, cant see myself changing any time soon.

This will start an argument....period.
Im not sure polls are the way to go with this discussion to be honest as their are alot of factors that determine the camera someone will shoot with.

brand history.
menu standards
af speed
pixel density
accessories + lenses

and the list could go on.

Canon, Leica, Olympus and Rollei! Recently shot with some Nikon kit too.

I like a bit of everything me.

It'll start nothing if people just answer the question ;)

Nikon

Nikon, for no other reason that the right camera came up second hand at the right price and at the right time, could just have easily picked up an equivalent Canon from my short listed wanted list

Maybe your right this poll might start an argument, but the reason why i turned it into a poll is that I wanted people to see this thread and with just a click ,vote -and-go?.
But I think i shouldve added a "mix" poll to see how many people are happy to use any brand.

The choice of camera is what one is happy with. Having built up a "kit" (ie lenses- flashguns etc) over time, the cost of changing from one make to another generally is too prohibitive. This is why choosing the right camera at the outset is more important than many realise.

I am and have been a Nikon owner and on my 3rd Nikon as upgrades, however there are times when I wish Nikon would produce comparable lenses with Canon, thinking now of the Canon 100-400mm lens in particular. The nearest Nikon version is the 80-400mm but is a slow screw drive and needs updating

I got a Nikon film camera 25 years ago or so and just stayed with the system as kit grew.

For film it's Leica or Nikon depending on situation.

Other - a selection!

I don't understand what the OP hopes to get from this poll? Sales stats say that Canon sell more cameras. The Getty stats say that more of their published images are shot on Canon gear.

But then more Toyota Auris' are sold than BMW 3 series, what does it mean? They're cheaper/ better marketed rather than a superior product.

I'd guess that it's a fairly close contest on this site, but what does that mean?

I personally chose Canon when I went AF (10 years ago), because I fell in love with the T90 when I was young and using cameras that were so old fashioned I comparison.

Canon because when I was looking for my first DSLR it was a choice between the Canon 350D and the Nikon D40
they were both really good but the thing about some lenses would not autofocus with the D40 put me off
Now realise its not really an issue but at the time time it put me off

If I was starting now I would still get Canon for the lenses
My fav lenses the Canon 100L and 100-400L have no Nikon eqivalent as far as I know:)

For my DSLR I went with Nikon because their ergonomics suited me. :)

But I've had Fuji Bridge and Compact cameras, and currently have a Canon compact. I voted Nikon though, because that has been the constant for 8-9 years.

From the options available in the Poll, I'm assuming that the OP may have been aiming the Poll at DSLR/CSC users, which may be what the majority of members use here. Most users have more than one camera, and the two, as in my case, may not be from the same manufacturer.

Mamiya, Bronica, Nikon, Kodak, Zeiss, Agfa, Voigtlander, Pentax, Yashica, home made, Graflex.... so I put other!

Steve.

Currently Nikon but if i go full frame i will re-evaluate.

Pentax.

I used a Pentax SLR in the past and liked it so was probably a bit inclined towards them.

I also have a few old K mount Pentax lenses which fit the current Pentax DSLRs

The IS is in the camera body so any lens used is stabilised.

The K5 has a lot of features and reviews were good.

Canon......

Problem is never the kit more the squishy human bit behind it

Poll doesn't have multiple entries : I ticked "other" but also use Panasonic, but had to leave it empty.
If anyone else is like me then the whole poll is going to be horribly skewed.

Both. Canon 30D and A640 most of the time. The 30D was one of the last batch in SA after it was discontinued, and I got it at a sweetheart price. I couldn't afford a D200 and didn't like the small, entry level, bodies.

For real joy, Nikon F2 and FM. I doubt if I'll ever buy another DSLR - they don't really interest me - but it will probably be Nikon if I do. No good reason, I just like them, and I still have my MF metal bodied Nikkors. Very little investment in Canon.

Canon.

Their lens range still suits my shooting style best, shame about their mental pricing on some new equipment.

I would have a hard time deciding what to buy if I were starting afresh though - both Canon & Nikon have some excellent cameras. Think Canon would still tip it with the 5D3 though.

Mainly canon , but also fuji, panasonic, mamiya, olympus, holga, fed, pentax , blackberry and apple. end of the day a camera is a tool - i use whatever is to hand and fit for the job

forgive me if this starts an argument.

Hmmm.

Nikon. Always have. No idea why... they just felt right. I started with Pentax though... then one day I picked up a FM2 and never looked back.

For digital, Olympus, Nikon, Sony depending on what I am doing or mood I am in. For film Canon, Nikon, Olympus, Pentax, Rollei, Yashica, Bronica, "variety is the spice of life" as the old saying goes :)

Why? Because I can and because I like to.

Canon for the lens choice / speed for motor racing

If I stopped with the racing I would sell the lot and go back to Sony a900 - and some of the older minolta glass.

what do you use???
Nikon D300s

...or what would you rather use?
Even pretending to have an unlimited budget, nothing comes up...? So far it's perfect and I just like everything on, in and about it. Pure love here! :D

otoh... should the mythical D400 appear... and have been thinking of taking a second, serious look at the D800E at the end of the year...

But nevertheless, that would still be a Nikon, so there you have it: vote casted for Nikon!

I still have my first DSLR - Sony A700 (with a few Minolta lenses from the 80's), which I bought four years ago (nearly five), and I am still not as good as the camera, so cannot see me changing just yet.
I also have a couple of Nikkormat FTn's with Nikkor lenses, which get occasional use, and a couple of Pentax Spotmatics (bought for the lenses), which I have never used, but which are in nearly mint condition.

Canon and an om10,
I used to use a hassleblade 500c but cost too much to buy/develop film.Costing me about £16 for 8 photos!

canon for me had a play with a nikon but prefured the canon

Canon for me too but the results are pretty close between Canon and Nikon anyway - for me, the Canon just made more sense. The film camera is a Nikon though :D

Canon for me - mainly through a series of coincidences and pure emotional attachment from having an A1 as my first camera over 30 years ago.

Also for some reason I can't spell Nokin :)
