I currently have a D70s, which was dropped,a nd now doesn't work ;(

Looked at a D200, but was now told a D90 would be better (Better performance at higher ISO)

I talk lots of photographs of shows, which require it.

Didn't like the D5000 at all, it seemed like i was paying through the teeth for the flippyscreen!

Was really happy with D70s, but the time has come to move on!
The D70s will cost the price of the camera to fix :(

Help?

The D90 is the equivalent of the D70(s) and has the benefit of 2 generations of improvements for high ISO noise. The D5000 may be slightly better given it is newer, but it would probably be fractional improvement at best. The moveable LCD screen comes at a cost of a lower resolution LCD. I'd rather have the higher resolution LCD screen. ;)

Of course, with the D90 you get body drive AF whereas you don't with the D5000.

yeah the d5000 is a pretty pointless camera

d90 dependant on price would be my choice

D90 I've had one for 3 months and its the dogs doodahs.

D90, i would be using my D70s Kit Lens too.
Price = 645 quid
Any good, bearing in mind im buying from a specialist shop, and as it is new, with a warantee

Thanks for the answers! :D

Depends if you shoot high ISO yourself, or just think it's important because it's flavour of the month at the moment with a lot of people - it you do shoot high ISO and need live view, then the D90, but if you don't really, the D200 is a class camera...

D200 has weatherproof body and that 'built to last forever' feel about it....but then I'm biased... :D

Sounds like a reasonable price, I think I have seen it a bit cheaper on CPB, should come with a 2 year warranty.

I have literally just walked in from watching ( and photographing ) 2 of my kids doing a street dance demonstration in a dance studio. Had the camera (D90) set to auto ISO with a maximum of 1600 set.

I will try and post a couple of pictures later on.

p.s. don't tell anyone, I did actually use the video function :whistling:

Well, I have been told the D90 handles high ISO very well, and the D200 handles it poorly!

I need the high iso because I photograph shows and musicals frequently :)

Insurance paid out (Y)

CPB?

Wicked, link them to me when they are up!

I don't think that high ISO is 'flavour of the month' at all. It's just a result of camera sensors becoming more advanced and more capable.

The D90 is an excellent camera for the money. :)

But to be honest the original post was pointless, because i did state that i needed high ISO for what i will be using it for.

Result too with insurance for my knackered D70s :d

A relative of mine recently bought a D90 to replace his D70. I'm a Canon user, and I seriously rate his D90, VERY nice piece of kit. Lovely rear screen, the viewfinder is MUCH better than the D70, file write speeds to card are massively faster, more detail, lovely ergonomics (but then the D70 was good too) and it shoots 720p video too.
For the money, hard to fault. My relative loves his to bits, and he's not wrong.

D90 over a D200. Any day.

I wouldn't discount the D5000 on account of it's "flippy screen". My Pana FZ50 has one of those and it's really rather useful :)

I bought a new D90 yesterday, replacing a D40.

It is worlds apart from my D40 - I feel like I did when I moved from a compact to my D40. Autofocus is superb and very intelligent, screen is amazing, Active D Lighting makes some lovely pics without any editing. As far as I could see, the D200 had much older processing and a small screen, but was weather sealed.

The main reason for discounting the D5000 has to be because it's more expensive than the D90. :bonk:

Had a d90 for a while and I love it. I've heard it described as the best camera for long exposures as well - if you are into that kind of thing. something to do with the arrangement of the sensor to keep it cool. Less amp glow than most.

It means you can use the 10 stop filter so many people are using these days, without getting a strong magenta colouring.

It was a big plus for me.

should be goingto buy it now :D
