Just bought my first flashgun (430EX) and I'd like to have a bit of a play with some off camera stuff. What do I need? What are the pros and cons of wired and wireless?

Wired is easy. You just connect the cable to the hotshoe and connect the flash to the cable. Everything will work just as it did iTTL etc etc. DONE

Wireless is slightly more difficult. You plug the sender into the hotshoe. You connect the receiver to the flash. You get much more range but you lose things like iTTL etc and have to set the flash manually (unless you are a Nikon user using CLS). It is not difficult just not as flexible.

EDIT: If you do want either then give Graham (Flashinthepan) a shout. He is selling both at a good price - see his advert in the for sale section.

Wireless is more convenient, more flexible, more expensive. Wired is more reliable (usually).
If the 350D is like the 400D you'll need to fire from the hotshoe as you have no synch port (although you can buy a hotshoe to pc adaptor for a few quid from ebay or I paid £10 at jessops I think). You'll need a transmitter on your camera and a receiver on your flash. Possibly something to put your flash on (stand) and through (brolly, softbox etc).
Best bet is to go and have a read up on the strobist site for small flash stuff and read through Strobist 101 series, and then get in touch with Flash In The Pan and get some kit to get started.
And it's good fun so dive in!

Edit - completely agree with Cowasaki, but you'll need the adaptor for the 350D.

Thanks, guys. Will the off flash connector have a universal thread so I can stick it on my spare tripod?

I looked into it abit after posting. You're right.:D
