What Did You Have For Dinner Today?

Very light lunch - sandwich.
Main meal at 5, turkey, potatoes, veg and gravy followed by apple crumble and custard.
Hmmmm

Going to make the missus a Ham Foo Young, and Burger and Chips for myself. Followed by my own home made fruit cake :)

Foo Young sounds good.

Uncle Ben's microwave rice for me

I did discover however that if you forget to make a tear in the packet before you put it in the microwave it makes a rather loud bang

Anyone got any good tips for microwave then oven jacket spud? e.g. how long in microwave/oven, what spud variety and whether to smear oil or butter on spud? Ta

No help with micro/oven.. Depends on size of jacket I guess.
Re the latter though... Butter and a little sea salt.. Yummy

Brush with oil, push a metal skewer through and bake in the oven at 220 degrees for an hour.

Save the microwave for soup & popcorn.

I microwave jacket spud first. I start off with 5 mins on high and check them. If I can push a fork into to them fairly easily, they then go into oven. if not they get another 5 mins and so on.

Large spud, micro-nuke for 10 mins and oven for about 20 mins until crispy on the outside.
Cuts down on cooking time
You can even crisp them under a grill for 5 mins or so

Fairly hot oven then? Fan 200° C job. Ta. Using Maris Pipers at mo, seem tasty enough.

And with the price of lecky these days, I begrudge putting the oven on for one hour for one little spud.
As its a fan oven ( same as mine) spud in when you turn the oven on and check it @ 10 mins onwards.

So not a what I had but what I've got....

Chicken thighs but I have no clue what to do with them tonight :(

Answers on a postcard :D

Does opening the oven door and looking at it count as checking it?
Close enough but I was more thinking about either taping it with a knife to see if its gone crispy or stick a knife in it to see if its cooked and crispy :D

Went down to town for lunch so had chicken and prawn Cha Han Donburri at Wagamamma.

Just tucking into home made toad in the hole, boiled potatoes and plum tomatoes (y)

I would put them in an oven dish with my own home made curry ( no garlic ) and serve with boiled rice. Or if I was feeling really lazy, I would stick them in the oven, with oven chips :)

First option sounds lovely but with lots of garlic :D
I have no oven so anything involving an oven was out. Ended up browning with garlic, paprika, red wine and slow hob cooked in gravy, plus mash and veg :)

That sounds equally good, if not better than my suggestion. Glad you found a nice recipe :)

Just had spicy cottage pie (enough left for another three or four helpings). I marinated some chicken breasts which I cut into cubes earlier, using my chicken tikka recipe. There is enough for five portions (£3.50 for four decent breasts), so that is this weeks dinners taken care of.

Settled for a roast Chicken Roasties and Carrot and Turnip, oh and Cabbage. All with a splash of Minted Gravy :)

All round yours for dinner then :D

Ken Hom's Balinese Chicken was a favourite of mine (prior to going veggie). Cooks on the stove in a large wok.

YUP

The Missus really loves me, I have got this cooking and baking lark well cracked. It probably helps that I have worked in catering for over thirty years ;)

Hell yes I bet she does, no Sane women would pass up on a man cooking (if they can)... I do love to cook but being just the kids and myself it now just tends to be boring everyday stuff as they aren't adventurous in trying

Mmmmmmm I may have to look into that :)

I usually wind my missus mates up, by posting on her FB wall and what is on John's menu today? I give a mouth watering description of what I am going to cook :D
