what did I see? NW Leics on the A42

had to drive down the A42 from Notts today as the M1 was closed.

I saw what looked like a castle on a very high rock/cliff on the right hand side as you go towards the M42.

I think it was between the M1 junction and Ashby de la Zouche.

Anyone know what it was? google didn't help. It wasn't a ruin.

It is a church at breedon on the hill. At night they light it up and it looks like a floating church.

Could have been Calke Abbey? That's just down the A42 at Ticknall, a stone's through from Ashby.....

I don't think it was breedon priory as I remember seeing that. Not calke abbey either. It was very distinctive, the cliff/rock rose straight up and the castle seemed to be moulded to the rock. A bit like bamburgh castle or Edinburgh castle, not as big though

I drive that way twice every day to work. Will have a look again today but can only think of breedon.

Yeah it has to Breedon. If you can get over there at night it looks amazing driving down the A42 as it just looks like a floating church!

the rock looks about right but I'm sure it was more of a castle than a church, but it must be that as it's in the right location and there's nothing else it could be
