What compacts are good please?

RX100 is £449 here - http://www.flashcamera.co.uk/sony-cyber-shot-dsc-rx100-digital-camera-black/ - with free shipping using code freeshipaug.

If you haven't heard of the shop it is run by Kerso, who is a member here and highly regarded for service and prices.

My mate has that camera and I must admit it is very good. Handy for sticking in your pocket for when you are out and about and spot something!

A good price there as well, very good infact! Just think though even £450 is a bit much for a compact!

Louise try snapsort.com compare options there. Ian.

I will do thanks. I went into Castle Cameras and he showed me a Sony Cyber-shot DSC-HX20V and said something about Sony offering £40 cash back and that it would be the model he would go for if he could upgrade his.

I have three models to choose from now which is confusing.com

I will be buying one of these models tomorrow. I have been told that the Sony Cyber-shot DSC-HX20V, is similar to the Panasonic Lumix DMC-TZ30EB and that there's not much difference between the two; what do you guys think?

To me the very expensive Sony RX100 is the first compact camera that Sony have made to compete (and probably beat) the Canon or Panasonic equivalents. I wouldn't go for the Sony HX20V personally.

Is there much difference between the Sony Cyber-shot DSC-HX20V or the Panasonic Lumix DMC-TZ30EB?

Someone else who works in Comet mentioned that the Panasonic Lumix DMC-TZ30EB was good, so I will probably end up with that one.

I'd jut go off reviews and sample images once you've had a play with them. I never trust the advice of sales people. I've always found that whatever camera I pick up is the one they have at home or are going to buy! :-)

I've had a bad experience with Sony compacts in the past, that's the only reason id think twice now.

OK i think i might ask to see the Panasonic Lumix DMC-TZ30EB and the Canon Powershot SX240 HS. It just throws me when they mention other model's.

I got a used Panasonic LX3 from this forum just to upgrade my compact. Its an amazing compact in my view and close focuses at 1cm from the front element!
The newer LX5 should be even better.
The LX3 has full manual control of exposure, aperture, iso, focus etc or you can use its full AI auto mode or anything in between.

Thanks I am tempted by the Panasonic DMC-TZ30EB-K and the Canon Powershot SX240 HS

This probably sounds silly, but I am worried that Castle cameras are trying to get more money out of me by getting me to buy the more expensive model.
