Being a discerning DSLR user with impecible taste (that means Konica Minolta to you lot ;)) I know nothing about compacts but the wife has decided she wants one for her birthday next month. Needs to be slim enough to fit in her bag, simple to use (she won't read instructions) and have good noise control (to prevent me sucking air through my teeth too much when I see her shots) as it's for her nights out.

Anyone got any good suggestions? Budget is between £100-150

The Fuji Finepix are apparently the lowest noise.. and they go up to 1600.. and 3200 ISO in some cases.

F41fd, F51fd. I am actually looking at the F30 or 31 as they have aperture priority and shutter priority but I guess your wife wont want these.

If you are looking for a slim, neat compact then you can't go wrong with a Canon IXUS IMO. The Ixus 75 is £133 on Amazon (can be found cheaper elsewhere I am sure).

The noise performance won't be as good as the Fuji, and you don't have Aperture / Shutter priority modes but it is really neat with a large LCD screen.
