Hi all,

Just splashed out and bought my first L lens.
My local Jessops store could only give me a lens cloth for cleaning lenses.

Wondered what you guys n gals would recommend for keeping camera and lenses clean.
I work in Africa so everything can get very dusty.

Thanks for any help.

Rocket blower and a Lenspen. You'll need to ensure that you're not using the Lenspen on a dusty element though - hence the need for the rocket blower.

Rocket blower for me as well, followed by a soft lens cloth for anything that won't blow away.

That's all I really use these days. I do have some MF lens cloths and some lens cleaner fluid, but I can't remember the last time I used them.

I normally buy a load of lenspens when they're on offer at Jessops/7dayshop etc, keep one in each bag and retire them when they start to get a little worn.

Despite what a lot of people say about putting filters in front of lenses I would certainly put on the best quality UV filter you can afford.

It's much easier (and cheaper) to replace a filter than a lens.

.

be careful with cheap filters. i used them for ages before i realised they were degrading the image quality. more than i realised.
need to get good quality ones such as hoya pro series, expensive but a small price to pay .
i dont bother now. i always use lens hoods and a rocket blower and i use the sensor cleaning fluid eclipse to clean lenses as well
this is one debate that will go on. google it and you will find loads of threads on it,
id say the photography world is split 50/50 on this

Thanks All,
Rocket Blower n Lens pen then.
Do you both with a screen protector ?

Another vote for the Giottos Rocket blower and a Lenspen.

I would add a spudz lenscloth as well. They are very good for a wee polish.
+1 for the GGS screen protector too.

FITP did a lenspen and blower for about £6 plus sensor swabs cheap too. Don't see the point in paying more when they do the job fine.
