What car do you drive?

Well there you go, perhaps even my scruffy cloths make me look rich :(

Can't believe some of the responses people get, if those sales people were to work for me, they'd be retrained. Plenty of ways to discretely ascertain whether someone is a tyre kicker or not...Regardless of a common Kent accent :P

Their loss they lose the sale and commission ;)
Its not specifically "main dealers" though.
Years ago I went to a local main dealer, and quite frankly found the sales person to be rude ( he was not insulting, but just his general manners let a lot to be desired) and very unhelpful,
eventually we walked out, closely followed by the manager who asked if there was a problem

We went to another ( same) main dealer 20 miles away, (different company) they couldn't have been more helpful & polite, they needless to say got the sale.

I went into one dealership to look to replace scabby spider. I was actually semi serious. Looked at a smart (no height adjusting seat, lacking history/invoices). Then looked at megane CC (stupid boot). Spotted a Z3 1.9 which I quite fancied. Salesman said he'd come back with the key. Stood around for 10 minutes at least. Got fed up. Went home. Ended up buying the 2.8 for same money with better spec from elsewhere a couple of days later. So glad he was a bit of an arse :D I wasn't entirely sure what I wanted and was looking at a wide range of things so I guess he thought I was tyre kicking but the right thing would have made me buy it right there and then.

I've had this too. Clive Sutton in London. Went to look at a nice Mustang they had there. Salesman took one look at the jeans and scruffy Converse shoes and just refused to play ball. Ended up ordering it from Planet Ford in Texas instead... no snobbery there. Ended up being £4000 cheaper, even after import and SVA modifications. Can't be arsed with idiots who think only decent people wear suits. Never worn a suit to work in my life. My idea of hell is a job where that's necessary.

Kinda satisfying that ! (y)

The child in me was tempted to pull up on their forecourt in it and do a massive burnout.... but it's a bit far to drive for that. If I was local to them I would have though :)

I bought the new Jeep Renegade a few months ago, went for the 1.4L petrol

Sorry can you repeat that, I don't see the connection, Mustang .........but it's a bit far to drive for that. Nope don't get it. ;)

LOL.. fair play.

Does it really still happen? I feel left out. Definitely don't wear anything flashy nor shave or comb my hair in the weekend but I've never been snubbed by a garage sales person.

Sure they ask what I recognise as qualifying questions, but I would do the same before investing time in anyone's requirements.

To be fair i can look quite scruffy some times and though I'm 30 i can be mistaken for being a fair bit younger, my wife also wasn't happy that he spoke to me , even replying the answers to her questions to me.

We had a z3 many years back got it new and bmw were just great to buy from so was there after sales service.

Any way one nice day roof down on the by pass stopped at the lights and a tvr pulled up, my wife saw me hit the sports button and told me to grow up. I just said he the other car is going to do the same as me. So lights go to green and off we all go now great first 150 yards nose in front. Then the turbo cut in and I thought I had stopped he was gone
That's life

I drive 2 because no one car can do what I want of it.

I want a large car that's easy to park

I want a big petrol V8 that sounds awesome and does at least 50mpg

I want a fabulous piece of design that looks amazing, but no one gives a second glance at.

I want something I can keep in immaculate condition, but park in Sainsbury's where it will get scratched, dented and generally abused.

No such car exists.

Buy a £1000 piece of crap with a 1 litre engine for the daily grind, and then save up for something you actually want for weekends.

Whenever you see people's requirements for cars, it's always the same. Something that fits all the kids, but still looks good... or something with power, but is still economical.... etc etc.

Nope. We don't. There is another way.

I've just spent the last 3 days driving the fun toy around the gower and Brecon Beacons :). Then came home and took out the estate to walk the dog.

Bought our mazda 6 from another dealer. Went to our local one we use all the time and they just wanted to sell us a new one. I wanted a one or two year old.
Took it to the local dealer for the warranty service after getting it :)

We are going to collect the wife's new car tomorrow Ford Fiesta 1.0 Ecoboost 125hp titanium with all the goodies Sat nav parking etc and what a cracking little car. The economy and performance from a 1 litre is astounding ( Well done Fords ). This is her 3rd Fiesta in 5 years and never had any problems what so ever.

Purchased from Motopoint nearly new 1000 miles and a BIG saving from new , they also gave us the best Part Exchange on our car compared to most other car dealers,

Oh that is definitely our pet hate, a sales person that responds to me like my wife doesn't exist. Or like when we went for the Q5 and they proposed the weedy 2.0TDI, my wife entertained it as they didn't have the other as a demonstrator but was doing her Flintstone impressions to get the car to move...So slow...He was surprised as most women find it too powerful...Yeah right..

What's worse was it was the wife that was paying for the car not me.
Being a kept man this happens regularly.

125bhp from 1.0 litre. That's brilliant.

The NEW ztec S is 140 BHP :) but the wife don't like the Whale Spolier on the back.

Ah well their loss...

The spoiler isn't much bigger than a standard Fiesta spoiler.

125PS 170Nm torque (200Nm on overboost)
140PS 180Nm torque (210Nm on overboost)
If I must, I would go for the ST version :)

She says it looks like a " Boy racer" car especially with only 3 doors and a full bumper and skirt kit I must agree with her this time.
The ST is another step up but then you loose on the MPG and FREE tax :) and the insurance starts to rub there hands.

The torque is pretty impressive and it pulls from really low down also , I like to drive it and that's coming from a BMW 530D

You can get the bodykit for the 5dr.

Personally my wife doesn't get a say in what car we get. The first she hears of it is when I tell her "See you later I'm off to pick up the new car". ;)

The car is for the wife and the wife is paying for it not me :) as you I turn up with a new car and say " Do you like my new toy " :)

In my head where I have no kids and happy I drive something pretty but impractical like a cayman or 370z. Back to reality I drive a cmax.

Just joking about the kids

BMW 335D X Drive is also a MUCH MUCH MUCH better car than the Skoda ...I mean Golf :)

my wife doesn't like our 120d, says its too big:eek: so has only driven it once in the past 6 months. she keep going on about getting herself a wee car, the fiesta was my advice. seem to punch well above its weight.

I've got 998cc Hillman Imp engines (naturally aspirated, two valves per cylinder) that make close to that. At 8800rpm though. You wouldn't want it in a road car, at least not in a traffic jam.

Had a boss with one about 30 years ago and we used to share lifts to work. His was manic D

i love imps! Although i'm a bit of a imp myself, kindred spirits.

Forgot to add also available as a one off 200PS, was up to around 250PS but they had to detune it because the car kept swapping ends. Yes it is road legal and holds 11th fastest time for a road car around Nurbugring,
