What can an Ipad do my Galaxy Note can't?

Maybe a bit of a tongue in cheek title as I'm sure an android product with a 5" screen vs an apple product with a 10" would provide a general no contest response which is fair enough, but ignoring the screen size, what can an Ipad do regarding apps, organisation, browsing, mail, note taking, phone calls, text, anything, that a Galaxy Note can't. And I mean from a photographer's perspective, running a photography business.

It's not meant to be controversial but I keep talking myself in and out of buying an Ipad and I find it very frustrating and want to try and make a final decision. I talk myself in to getting one because for example I see/hear people saying things like, 'I can sit down with a client and take notes then attach the notes to their wedding date in my scheduler isn't my Ipad great', then I go away and find out I can do exactly the same with my Galaxy Note, and talk myself back out of it.

So other than screen size, what are the advantages?
 
Your wallet will weigh a lot less, and you'll be a really cool dude.

Other than that, not a lot.
 
Force you to use iOS, pay for most, if not all apps. Make you buy more an more apple products to work with your iPad. Put you in the same pigeon hole as other Apple users?

So most iOS apps are paid for are they?

What Apple products would you be made to buy to work with the iPad?

Ok I'm not a mod but can we please keep this on track please. Can we at least wait until I feel like I have a satisfactory response before we have a mega ipad argument? I honestly want to find out what benefit I would gain from owning an ipad over my galaxy note, other than the screen size.

I'd say none, because you're quite happy with your Note.

It's just a tablet.

Marcus, I don't have an ipad but I do have a 10" tablet (Asus Transformer, amazing bit of kit) and I have a Galaxy Note. From our perspective there isn't much if anything I can't do with the note that I can do with the tablet, its just occassionally easier with a larger screen. I would guess its much the same with an ipad. I would say that these two devices work in tamden whereas an ipad would not

Well the Apple products are free, but Android has more free apps, although paid for by adverts.

Most of the best paid apps are available on both platforms, so apart from Siri, you can do pretty much do on Android what you can on iOS.

Android is a better value option, as devices tend to be cheaper, and on the higher end models (your Note, my S2, Galaxy Tab etc) the hardware is better, bar the screen resolution of the iPad3.
 
Perhaps the question should be "What can't I do on my Note that I need to?"?

If it does everything you need it to, and doesn't provide any barriers to your desired workflow/business usage, why try and find something with which to beat it?

To be honest, it sounds more like you are looking for someone to justify you buying an iPad so that you can then justify it to yourself (not meant as a criticism, just an observation btw). :shrug:
 
Since I got my note I don't use my galaxy tab as much. My wife has an iPad and I reckon I can get it to do most of everything I want it to but it will cosy more.

Now there us jelly bean around the corner I just see the experience getting better. The note has made me realise I can just use my tablet as a gallery and games machine. If an email comes through both devices I always go for the note first.
 
If you are happy with you galaxy note then keep it. An iPad, or any tablet for that matter, would probably not do anything better than what you already use. Perhaps the larger screen is the biggest advantage. Personally I think the iPad is brilliant and I use mine all the time. But I don't run a photography business. it allows me to spend less time on my desktop and now that I've got Pages,Word,Excel and PowerPoint on it it fulfils all I need.

Unfortunately so many people have a downer on Apple products and it wouldn't matter if they were the greatest products out there. They're not the greatest products out there but they do combine good design with good user functionality and that is why they sell so many.

Well seeing as both the note and the transformer were the same price or higher as an ipad I'd say you need to revise your (quite insulting) statement above.

I bought into Android because (for me) its just better.
 
I have a Galaxy Note and an Ipad (mark 1). I use the note mainly for calls, emails and suchlike and the Ipad for surfing the web as I'm getting on and my eyesight is *****, I also have hundreds of books on the ipad and use it as a colour book reader too.

Too many comments to quote them all but everyone has brought up a valid point so thank you everyone for posting up.

I thought I would quote this one however as it has hit the nail on the head for me. If I had money coming out of my ears then it would be a no brainer I would just spend the dosh and see how much I used it, but it's not the case for me so want to see if I NEED to spend the money. It would seem not?

So what about tethering? Also, I hear some people use the Ipad for on the spot payments, and for having customers agree to contracts? What other innovative ways has the Ipad improved the way you run your business?
 
I use bento on my iPad. Couldn't live without it. Keeps all of my referrals, client info and todo list all in once place. Got rid of the booking form and fill in all the info and walk through the contract on the iPad at the client meet. And it all syncs back to my mac and iPhone so I can view and edit it anywhere.

Similar setup for my other client forms in pages and numbers, can edit and email invoices, model releases etc on the move and keep them all in sync with iCloud.

Also use the Wordpress app and iaWriter app to create and publish content on my blog etc.

Pretty much the only time I spend at my desk is to process images.

Can think of a load of things that I can only do with my iPad. Which is the reason I got it.

I have models sign releases, and have couples sign contracts on either my note or tablet, whichever is handy. The apps to do this were free and work a treat, and don't have ads in them. I don't know about payment though, maybe thats the one thing ipads can do that android devices can't? I bet theres an android app for it though.

Basically I don't think an ipad will do anything you can't do with your note. The best thing by far is tethering - I have jpeg previews on both the note and tablet within a couple of seconds of taking the shot, often before the raw file has managed to get itself down the usb cable into the laptop. My client can see each image as it happens which is cool. Last weekend I shot a big hectic traditional wedding. My other half could check exposures and focus etc for me while I concentrated on the rest. It made a difficult job much easier. You could do the same on an ipad but you already have the note.

Problem is, most iPad owners won't have a galaxy note and vice versa. You will end up with iPad fanatics both for and against them. I reckon they both would work for notes, but showing clients photos on an iPad with a larger screen and higher resolution would be much better....

Just for honesty, I have an iPad and love it, despite being skeptical (a work purchase I would never have bought myself, but now I would since using one....)

I think that in my mind I've held the ipad device in awe slightly as the 'ultimate' to combining power and portability and having heard lots talk about how good it is wanted to have a sanity check to see if it indeed deserves it.

I've had a quick browse in the Play store for database apps and things like Handbase crop up which may be an android equivalent to bento and it may seem that for any apple app there seems to be an android equivalent. Also I've delved deeper in to some of the apps I do have and learnt they are more capable than I realised. I think I'm gonna stay android and push the limits of my note.
 
I have a iPad 1st gen and i originally pre-ordered the Nexus 7 thinking id get rid of the iPad once i got the Nexus, yet i never have done as i tend too prefer the choice of apps and games on the Apple store tbh even if there's less free ones too choose from.
 
I have had an iPad and now have a Note. To be honest, I would get another iPad. The screen and working surface was great. I sold it after I was given a Sony Tablet which has now been sat in a corner gathering dust.

The Note is great but still a phone. Battery life is no where near the iPad and a lot of the music apps and ability to import raw files was actually great.

Wow. That is really showing why people who own apple products get a bad rep. The elitism. My tablet coast more than my wifes iPad, shock horror!

Still, it's quite evident from your camera kit that money is no issue for you... Wait... Hang on....if you are going to try and spout affordability add the driver you would do best to have better kit on a photography forum. Normally I hate the whole "pay more get more" approach but I take an exception on this one with you and your affordability comment.

I own neither I Do however own a galaxy note and a large ride on mower and some fake rolex watches roflol

That's quite an assumption from both of you to make the definitive announcement that anyone who owns an apple product are elitist and/or yuppies. I'm sure that lots of people would take issue with your statement.

Why cannot people simply buy what they want and can afford if they so choose. Why do they have to be pigeonholed because of it.

Or maybe it indicates more about the individuals posting than the owners of apple products.

Actually re-reading your post - your POS tablet is not particularly good at predictive text is it? I'm glad I am typing this on my iPad ...

And perhaps the reason why you take exception is because you are one of those bitter people to which I refer? Take exception - I don't care.

I choose my kit because that's what I WANT not because I cannot afford anything else.

Anyway I'm tired of this willy waving now :wave:

I think that says it all :D

I don't know about these days, but in the early days of Android a bug bear of mine was that I couldn't annotate PDF documents. Unfortunately I have to deal with a lot of large contracts (think 10K plus pages) and not being able to review/annotate them made the iPad a clear winner...

Then there is the integration with other apple devices, not important ofcourse if you don't have a mac/iphone/appletv etc...But for me the biggest bug bear is contacts, I'm anal about contact information (and meta data in general) and google contacts just messes up the contact photos, but more importantly it messes up names which has been going on for years and years and they still haven't fixed it...Try having someone in your contact list who has several prefixes, a double barrelled first name, middle name, surname with capitalisation and space, and post fixes...It just gets muddled up and the fields put in the wrong places...

So leaving my data alone is quite a biggy for me, but I appreciate that not everybody knows people with such names and titles...

I must admit, also apps like Omnigraffle (binary compatible with MS Visio) and Merlin (with MS Project) are brilliant.

Then there is iPhoto, wow iPhoto is amazing. I was on holiday and it reads the RAW photos from my D7000 onto the iPad in glorious high resolution, you can make great journals across multiple pages if you so desire and it syncs across all devices and share with folks back home...They loved seeing our travel logs...It really is very good.

But only the OP would know wether any of that matters to him...And that is the missing piece in this thread...
 
No it shouldn't.

But the members who got suspended should understand why and modify their future posting habits accordingly.
