What can a 7D produce

Have you seen the digital rev TV bits the pro photographer and cheap camera? have a look. Now the type of photography they are shooting portraits etc can be done on inexpensive kit as its all about the lighting, posing and processing where sports its not generally so creative and more about capturing somthing that happens in an instant without the ability to plan things.

A pro sports photographer will know how to get the best from his kit, how to plan and read the game, things like knowing where to point his lens when Ryan Giggs puts a cross in or where Wayne Rooney is most likley to run to when he scores it all helps when shooting somthing thats moving.
I have shot cricket for a mates club quite a few matches and I still don't really have a clue whats going on, I am learning who is good at bowling, catching where I am more likley to get the diving catch shot etc. Its all helping me to improve the shots I am getting yes even at 3.4fps I can get the shot but at 10fps the frame that goes to the paper/website whatever would be the perfect shot nt just the one thats best of the 3 or 4 frames I capature. These are things you only pick up over time by "studying" your subject.

Oh your so right... i started cricket sitting in the sun shooting every ball just in case its a wicket or a 6.. now after doing litrally hundreds of games.. I can pretty much judge wether to even shoot or not as the ball nears the batsman... easy for some you might think.. but I know nothing about cricket.. even this sunday I asked there the pro was for the fielding side.. i was told slip... i was no wiser:)

But I really dont think the any photogrpaher can get a good pic with any camera argument depends on these things... there are situations where kit does matter and even the most experienced cant get a shot with a pocket kodak ..

LOL, I was once asked make sure you get a shot of my lad bowling, ok which one is he? and I got some strange answer.

He pointed him out and he looked like all the others, I have no idea if I got a shot of him I just shot all of them bowling but they did all look the same.

I had one guy shout come on they are out, no they weren't you hadn't even started yet, its a foreign language. Aparently when your out that means your in to bat. when your in your out. well you were out if you had been caught or stupmed etc when I used to play on the field as a kid and if you hit it over someones garden wall it was six and you were out.

I did ask why do they throw the ball to everyone in the team on its way back to the bowler, apparently it is to keep the ball clean. well don't throw it at the floor and catch it before it hits the floor when he hits it. Durrrr

I can make it a lot simpler than that.....

You have one team that's IN and one team that's OUT.

The team that's OUT has to get the team that's IN OUT.

When the IN team is out, the team that's OUT is then IN and the team that was IN is now OUT and has to get the team that was OUT and now's IN OUT.

Simples :)

I used to play cricket a hell of a lot (in my teenage years 3-4 times a week) but at the ripe old age of 34 I've pretty much retired as weekend games just take up waaaaaay too much of my time.

There's a lovely cricket ground right on my doorstep, the wicket is around 150m from my doorstep so I pop out to get some shots but nothing is compelling me to play the game any more.

Anyway, the point I was coming to is that as KIPAX said, it's fairly easy to "guess" when something's going to happen during the course of a match, I suppose having played a fair bit of cricket helps me.

When I shoot rugby I pretty much chase the ball, although with the help of my bro-in-law who plays at quite a good level, I'm getting more of an understanding of the game :)

My Dad was playing until he was 55! Keeping wicket until he was 53, then just a left and spinner and batsman after that. Youngsters these day hey!

I didn't say my age was a factor in me not playing any more though

Now I'd mauch rather be taking pictures of the game rather than standing round in a field for 6+ hours

Also, had a pretty nasty experience a few years back when our changing room got turned over, my car keys were taken and well as you can probably guess my car went too!!!! :shake:

Without wanting to offend anyone on this forum but when you play in the Essex league and you're up against clubs in East London, Basildon and other "delightful" areas you never feel quite comfortable about leaving your car all day.
