Hi all

I am looking at selling my nikon d50 and would be interested to know what would be the logiocal progression. I have been looking at the nikon d90 but would be interested in your thoughts

Thanks :)

If the D90 is too much then look at the D5000 as it has the same sensor but get the D90 if you can!

I went to a D300 from my D50 and now have a D700 and still use the D300 which is a good camera and possible better camera than the d90. not sure on the d5000 etc...

Thanks for all your replies guys it's proving to be helpfull

Just out of interest what does the D50 not do for you?
Has it come to the end of it's life?

I guess the options are dependent on len's you already own are they body motor driven or AFS lenses?
D5000 is possibly worth looking at followed by D90 D7000 D300s
depending on your budget.

I would certainly go and view them first to see which feels the best in your hand.
I still have and use my old D50 and it still delivers the goods in most situations.
If you shoot low light or available light indoors then you might then benefit from the low noise and higher iso settings :)

I moved from d50 to d300 and no regrets at all

I would say D90 or the D90's replacement due in early new year....

sorry only regret is should have kept the d50 as-well

My nikon d50 is very grainy when i comes to shooting in natural light and low light settings. it something that i have noted a few people has experienced as well. the lenses i have are afs lenses

thanks again everyone for your input

Hi Becs
If you have afs len's then look at the D5000 or D90 if your budget can stretch a bit further the new D7000 16mp looks good on paper with higher iso and less noise :)

These should drop in price by xmas and you may well be able to Beat the VAT rise in the new yr :)

Perhaps using raw files and NeatImage, Noise Ninja or something similar to help with noise reduction would help you. It's what I use (RawTherapee, NeatImage and the GIMP) and I can usually complain about noise only when I take an underexposed shot at ISO 1600.

Just got a D300 after a D60 so would strongly suggest one of them or the D7000 (I could not justify the price and got a bargain on the D300)

Think it depends on your budget. If around £500 or less then a D90 would be my bet (may need to be 2nd hand), if more then a new D90, D300 or D7000 should be good.
