ok so reading all about it I would also like to have a delve, I have a D7000 and primarily film nature on a long zoom but would prefer to do some short stuff and fun stuff, budget is a big squeaze and really need to bring it in for buttons certainly under £50-£60 if poss, I would like an old school traditonal Nikon SLR and a silver one as they look nice,

How about an older F65 with say an 18-80 lens?

Nikon FM2? You can pick them pretty cheap on ebay these days

what are they like?
its been a long time since i had any film camera and it was just a pocket compact.

Traditional manual focus body? Because the F65 certainly wouldn't fall into the "traditional" bracket by any stretch of the imagination.

Do you want to include a lens in that budget? If not, the best you could probably do is pick up a user FM/FE within your budget, they are nice compact reasonably traditional Nikon SLRs.

I'd be impressed if you could pick up an FM2 with that budget though - certainly not on eBay, anyway.

Also, what lenses do you have on your D7k?

If you like a bit of auto plus manual there is the N2000\301.....there are some bargains still around and I paid about £10 (without lens) for mine on the bay a few years ago.

Humm The F60 from Ffordes look ok at £15
I like the idea of AF with MF option though.

and it has to be silver

Well it would work fine, but that silver, ugh! how very 90's

Seriously though it would be a nice intro to film, got everything you need and takes nice pics. Go for it

Welcome back to film!

The F60 looks ideal tbh to start out with film to see if you want to venture further.

I have one and only dislike it as it doesn't have an iso overide, thus relying on DX coded films only.

I often use Rollei Retro film which have no code on the cartridge....bit of a bind but there are ways around the issue.

Btw, I'm in the Wakefield area at the end of this month and will have a classic Nikon FE with me along with probably a medium format folder and mybe even a subminiature (I have to travel light but will have more than one camera with me.)....Although I'm there for a wedding I may have a bit of free time during the week if you wanted to meet, take a stroll and have a play with some other film kit.

Thanks I am enjoying looking at the old kit, I think I will bite the bullet on the F65 below and also the lens its £20 over my budget mind

Next week could be possible, I am just up the road from Wakefield in Mirfield, so far though Friday is the best day as I am off all day I work shifts for a Rail Firm.

lol, sorry I didn't make myself very clear .....I live outside of the UK and will only be in Wakefield district for a week from 26th May, nonetheless if you have a little bit of free time then I'm glad to try meet up (except the 31st as i'm at a wedding!)

For test film poundland is quite good if they have any. Also boots sometimes have the odd offer on. I'd aim for £2 a roll max for the first couple of rolls.

Tudor is one to look out for as it is made by Fuji.

Ah I see now worries.

Well I have taken the plunge and bought the F65 and the 28-80 lens, should be fun.

£76 including delivery.

A 28-80 is good range. I had that on my old film camera to start with. Got even lazier and bought a 28-300 after :D

I thought the 28-80 was a bit long I fancy something a bit closer as I was thinking more of short distance work, pubs and stuff with the missus.

haha i mean pubs and walks stuff.

its being shipped today Special Delivery so hope to have it tomorrow, its exciting stuff. batteries also ordered just need some film now.

If your local poundland hasn't got any try Boots, a bit more expensive but if you want to get shooting this weekend may be your only option.

Thanks I am also waiting on the batteries which probably wont arrive until next week, to be honest its a rubbish weekend for me as I do shifts for a Rail Freight Company and this sunday I am working a full 12 hour day shift. However next week I am off Fri, Sat and Sun so fingers crossed :)

Do Mailshots have an actual store as they are only up the road from me. In an emergency no film situation I could nip up there.

Not sure. Try phoning them. They might let you pick up.

I dropped by Poundland and for a try out picked up some Agfa 200iso 24 shots for a quid each, have run two rolls through just working on the cameras light metre and generally running the aperture near to wide open, we shall see, missus will drop them into boots on monday on a two day turnarround

From memory, the 28-80 was the kit lens sold with the F65 when new. While not absolutely top notch, it was certainly significantly better than the Tamron 28-300 that replaced it and the 70-300 that came in the 2 lens kit I bought when I came back into photography.

£76 inc delivery sounds like a bargain to me! Can't remember what I paid for mine (new) but it was rather more than that. I still have the F65 and the camera I upgraded to (F80) but since going down the DSLR (FF) route, I'm afraid they've lived in the cupboard. I keep meaning to dig them out for a trip out to play but I've become rather fond of the immediacy of digital I'm afraid. I do have some film in the fridge that could do with using - maybe when we get back from holiday!

The 28-80 does feel very plasticky and does look like a kit lens however it does make the whole kit incredibly light to carry, i enjoyed taking pics and being restricted to 200 iso realy made you use the light meter in the camera, i wanted to get hold of 400iso for my first tests but none was available in Huddersfield cheap. I also like the instant review of digital but going back to film also realy awakens the skills.

I'm not sure whether I love or hate the wait for the films to come back from the developers, I think the anticipation outweighs my impatience. Just sent 3 rolls off which I know will be back in 2 or 3 days and I will spend the journey home from work wondering if they have come back. Sad git, that's me.

Who do you use Andy?
Also where do most folk get there films from?

I like the anticipation but only up to a point

I like the anticipation but only up to a point

That's why I sometimes use the Max Spiellman one hour service. I can then be disappointed with the results much more quickly :D

I use mailshots for film if I need any more but I've got a shed load of out of date stuff to use so I'm going to be ok until about 2015...

I like the anticipation but only up to a point, I don't mind waiting a week as long as its only a week I had to stop using CC Imaging and AG as I couldn't cope with the waiting and not knowing. I know where I stand with The Darkroom and Peak. But I still relish the opening if the envelope holding the negs up to the light and hoping I've got some decent shots only to be disappointed once I've scanned and enlarged them

On the rare occasions when I have a roll to be D&Ped, I use whichever High Street place is cheapest on a 1 hour deal! Not as immediate as digital but the closest you can get. For the extra quid or so I also get a CD for a quick digitisation but any that are wort the effort do end up getting scanned at whatever I can manage here.

The thing I like about Film is for the £7 plus the cost of the film say £10 all in you get 36 pieces of paper with printed pics on to give away or send to your mum or gran, pin up at work, if I went home and took 36 images and start f*rting about with my printer it would cost more than £10 :lol:

Hi Paul, after trolling round most of the developers for 12 months I finally realised that Peak Imaging were (in my opinion) the best, I have never waited for more than a week and on occasions it has been only 2 days. Quality is consistently good and the price is pretty close to being the cheapest.

If you have a look at the top of the forum there's a list of developers, film I get from 7day Shop, AG Photographic, Silverprint, Mathers or Discount Films Direct. I haven't bought any from Mailshots yet but they seem to be competitive.
