What camera should i get?(Another one)

I am going on holiday in the near future & want to get a fairly decent camera to take with me. At the moment i have a pentax compact which takes great photo's(so i think), but dose'nt have much of a zoom lens on it.

I am off to Asia & New Zealand, so will taking lots of outdoor pictures & want a camera with a decent zoom.

Now before coming on here i was thinking about a DSLR, but after reading a lot of posts decided they are not what i want, weight is the main thing, but also the price is another.

My budget is about £400, but could stretch a bit. It must have video capability as well. Any replies gratefully received:thumbs:
 
Fuji HS10

30x manual zoom (saves batteries) HD video, mad shooting modes (it can make crowds dissappear). And is £375. Oh yeah 30x IS zoom. Thats a 600mm equivalent!!

ANd it takes 4 x AA batteries, so you can take em out to fly, and buy them when you get there should you choose.
 
In the same position myself got to choose 1 today for a present between Fugi hs 10 and panny fz38 :thinking:

I think it is an awesome specfor less than £400. If I could only convince the wife.....

best to go to a shop and have a play, compact cameras definitely need a feel before purchase because even though people do the same for DSLR's, DSLR's are based on a certain body type whereas compacts can be all shapes and sizes so definitely have a play.
 
Budget?

How about one of the newer micro 4/3rds cameras such as the Panasonic Lumix G1 with the twin lens kit - 14-45 and 45-200? These EVIL cameras slot in between compacts and full dslrs. Evil means electronic viewfinder interchangeable lens, and doesn't mean it will sleep with your girlfriend and let your tyres down.
 
I would go for the HS10. Something I miss from most of the bridges nowadays, is that they have gone all electronic with auto zooms etc. HS10 has a fantastic manual zoom and focus rink, akin to the Panny FZ50. :)
