right then, i have owned me canon 1000d for over a year now, and i fancy a change, i obviously want to stick with canon as im used to them, what camera's do you recommend, budget £600-£700ish mayb?

if you could help me that would be great many thanks :)

Why do you fancy a change? the only real reason to contem, plate a change would be that your current model doesn't do what you want to do wtih it. eg 8fps for high speed shooting as in the 7D. Yours is more than capable of taking a good photograph, think about what you want to achieve first, it maybe that it is a lens you need not a new body.

Depending on what you shoot has a lot of impact on what you need. If you're happy with the 9 point AF then either the 650D or the 60D would be very good upgrades for you. If you want a AF system for sports though you might be better off with a second hand 7D.

The 650D is great, it'll be similar in body design and size to your 1000D but with it's high ISO, 9 all cross point AF, a super sensitive touch screen and all the video features to shake a stick at. I've just cought one as an upgrade to the wifes 550D and she loves it.

I on the other hand have, and prefer, the 60D. It's very similar in features to the 650D but without the touch screen but it has the top screen and the rear dial which for me is preferable. It's a great camera and it gives great results time after time and is very easy to use.

I did have a 7D but I found it rather quirky, you had to nail the exposure every time or you'd end up with a noisy bad shot, and a few times I had it misfocussing for one shot and nailing the next without changing any settings. I got some terriffic shots with it, but my keeper rate with the 7D was down at 50-55% whereas every other body I've used has been 80% minimum.

I went for a 600D after playing around with a borrowed 1000D for a bit. It was a compromise between new features and budget. To be honest apart from the swiveling screen, I didn't feel a massive difference between them, maybe because still learning the basic stuff, but both are excellent cameras, to really feel like upgrading and getting tons of new features, you will need to go for XXD and XD bodies. The 650D is very nice camera and if you shoot video then will be worth considering.

What lens do you currently own ? Is your budget body only or ???

As Ken said, what are the limitations you are finding (if any) from your current body ? How do you find the weight / size of it, as some of the other models around are bigger and heavier, eg the xxD range are a larger body then the xxxD range...

cheers for the replys guys, budget for the body only.

i own kit lens 18-55mm, tamron lens 10-24mm, & canon f1.8 50mm

i fancy something a bit bigger & heavier because mine feels real cheap, scared of droppin it because it would just smash into pieces lol.

Maybe you could be tempted to change that kit zoom for a quality 17-50mm f2.8 and that 50mm f1.8 for a f1.4?

That'd be much better than going for a bigger and heavier camera that'll be just as ready for the bin as your current camera if you drop it :D

well i also fancy doing some video to, so i fancy changing the camera!

Any thoughts on why that would be different from the 60D?

If I get a badly exposed shot on my 60D I find that I can get cleaner images with PP from it than I ever could with my 7D. There seems to be less noise at higher ISO with the 60D even though the 7D has the same ISO capabilities.

I also find that if I set my 60D up to take a shot and leave the same settings it will take a similarly exposed shot time after time whereas the 7D (mine anyway) seemed to change exposure between shots on the same settings. I couldn't set the 7D for a studio setting and shoot off say 50 shots and find all the exposures were the same (and no I didn't have in set to bracketing all the time, I thought of that).

I liked my 7D, the AF system on it was great and I got some great photos from it, but I did have more problems with my 7D than I have from any other body and I've had 6 in total.

If you want it to be bigger and heavier the 60D would fit the bill better than the 600D.

It is clear that you just want to change to a better model for the sake of it (nothing wrong with that) and the only requirement you have mentioned is video.

I know what you mean about the cheap feel to your current camera but I am happy with it as the side affect is that it is lighter and if I did drop it it won't cost much to get another...
