If money was no object!

I have been intrigued by some of the responses on the Kit snobbery thread. So thought I would ask this question.

Be totally honest, you have a pot of money that will buy anything you desire. So what would it be?

Regards

Chris

1D Mark IV
100-400 L
400 f/2.8 L
300 f/4 L
70-200 f/2.8 L
60mm Macro
24-150 L
16-35 L

All Canon kit.

A few more lenses:
85mm f/1.4
105mm f/2
300mm f/2.8

Maybe some more studio kit - a couple of extra monoblocs and some backdrops...

That's about it really, plus maybe some extra computer kit.
Apart from the D3s that's currently on back-order, I've got pretty much all I need (or even want).

Well... Maybe a Porsche 911 GT-3 for weekends and a 2004 BMW M3 for commuting duties...

hasselblad 500 serries + what ever the latest digital back is. range of lenses from wide to long + 6 film backs, and a life time supply of film... done.

Pretty much the canon line up of lenses!! If I had to choose I would go for
300mm f/2.8 IS
85mm f/1.2 AND f/1.8 (if money really was no object!!)
1D mkIV
50mm f/1.2 or 1.4 (would need to use them to see which suited me better though)
16-35 f/2.8

Also a pellier noir background and a few courses so I could use the kit properly and and and!!!

1d and 1ds with lots of L primes 14-400mm

then a 24-70 and 70-200 for when I need a generic zoom

a dozen 580exIIs

monoblocs with battery packs ala alien bee or xtronix

27" imac

17"mbp

hasselblad 500 with a standard a wide and a tele and 3 or 4 backs with buckets of film and a slide scanner

well stocked darkroom

anything else I could fit in the lorry while I was nicking in the warehouse :p

sony a900
sony 50mm f1.4
carl ziess 35mm f1.4
carl ziess 85mm f1.4
sony 100mm f2.8 macro
2 x sony hvl f58am
PW's for the flashguns

thats all the camera gear i would need to be happy with.

probably a pair of 1dmk4's (youve gotta have a backup lol)
some long L primes (400/500/600)
a small philipino child to carry the above lenses
a new mac pro with the highest spec and a copy of windows 7 ultimate (awaits backlash)

otherwise im not sure, happy with my current lens lineup..

Pretty well set up the way I am, might change the 300mm F4 for the F2.8 but not even sure about that :)

1D Mk IV
17-40 F4 L
24-70 F2.8 L or 24-105 F4 L IS (depending on weight / balance - walk around lens)
300 F2.8 L IS
500 F4 L IS

Not having to work, and enough money to travel the world!

In all honesty, all I am missing now is a 300mm F4 L IS and I will be happy with that. Maybe a 10-20 too, but that isn't a necessity.

D3x
D3s
D300s
400mm 2.8
70-200 2.8 vr2
24-70 2.8
85mm 1.4
12-24 2.8
Fisheye (nikon)
200mm f/2
105mm macro
3x sb900's
2x teleconverter
and i'd commission nikon to get me the D4 ASAP !!:D:D

I'd just add a 300mm f/2.8 IS to my kit.

If money were no object... I would buy everything ;) then decide what feels best hehe

i think i'd have to have:
2x canon 1d mk4's
16-35 f/2.8 L
24-70 f/2.8 L
70-200 f/2.8 L
100-400, and if money was reallllllly no object, one of each prime (why not?)

and just to be safe, id have one of those canon minis (id rather have a canon mitsubishi evo 10, but still) to keep it all in :)

A 50mm f/1.2L and 85mm f/1.2L, an EOS 1D.

Canon MP-E 65mm f/2.8
Canon EF 100mm f2.8L Macro IS
Canon EF 180mm f3.5L Macro

Canon imagePROGRAF iPF9100 printer

...Well you did say unlimited :)

I'd be travelling the world not buying new equipment, the only lens that appeals to me now is the Nikon 200mm f2

What I've got but if money was no object, I would probably change the 24-70 and 70-200 f/2.8 Sigmas for their Nikon counterparts.

Does employing my wife as a full time porter count as investing in photographic equipment?

sony a900
sony 50mm f1.4
carl ziess 35mm f1.4
carl ziess 85mm f1.4
sony 100mm f2.8 macro
2 x sony hvl f58am
PW's for the flashguns

thats all the camera gear i would need to be happy with.

CZ don't make a 35/1.4 in A-mount, that focal length is covered by Sony in their G range. My pictures in the Priddy & Cheddar meet topic in landscapes were taken with mine.

If I was starting again or if my conscience would let me spend my own money without protesting I'd probably not buy Canon again. I think I'd go for Sony. The Nikon D700 tempts me and looks to me to be the most direct replacement for the 35mm SLR's we used years ago, or still use, but more tempting is the thought of every and any lens benefiting from in body IS.

300 F2.8L, 500 F4 L

Travel the world to get some photos,

And a fully kitted out Studio :D

I've already got it.

It's in my sig.

Paul

...and I'd get the bits Paul already has - ZD 90-250/2.8, ZD 35-100/2. Oh, and the ZD 7-14, PanaLeica 25/1.4 & 14-150. And the E-5 when it comes out (hopefully at Photokina...). And some photo-tours around Scotland and Scandinavia for me and a couple of mates...

It's not so much the gear for me, but rather - if money was no object, I'd give up my day job and shoot a graphic novel-style story.

Profoto lighting setup.

2 Leica M9's with the 24, 35 and 50mm Summilux as well as the 50 Noctilux.

A D3s and D3x. 14-24 2.8, 24-70 2.8, 70-200 2.8, 300 VR 2.8, 400 and 600 as well as the new 24 and the 50 1.4 and 85 1.4.

4 SB900's.

Lots of PW triggers.

Many, many high speed memory cards.

A Macbook Pro.

A top end Power Mac.

Peli cases to lug it all about in. And most of the ThinkTank range.

And, and, and....

Being a Canon fan

Bodies
7D + grip
5D (mk 1) dont need/want video on a small bodied FF + grip
1Ds (latest body)
1D Mk3 (too many 'rumours' about the mk4)

Might get rid of the 7D/5D after trying them and just stick to the 1D/1Ds

Lenses.
300, 400 & 500 primes (already havethe smaller primes I need, no need for the 200)
70/200 f4 and f2.8 IS, 100/400 (DO and L)
1.4 TC

Decent tripod

Box of 580's (II's)

And last of all but by no means least of all, a big box of something I REALLY need

talent :)

Matt
(ps If i had half the talent I might not need all that kit)

It's not so much the gear for me, but rather - if money was no object, I'd give up my day job and shoot a graphic novel-style story.

I've changed my mind....now what he said. :)

EF 16-35 f/4 L USM (though a 17-40 is more realistic!)
EF 70-200 f/2.8 L IS USM (f/4 non-IS more realistic)
1.4x & 2x tele-converters
Gitzo GK1581OT Series 1 Ocean Traveller Tripod
...and maybe a couple of 580EX MkIIs :P

Already got a body I'm happy with and I don't plan on parting with my 24-105L so I'm not *that* far away from owning all I could dream of it's just my wallet that's holding me back :D At the end of the day though it doesn't matter what you use, they're just tools to illustrate your ideas imagination :)
