What Broadband speeds are you getting ?

router says it's connected at 5mb even though they promised me 6.5mbs

Not too bad for being out in the sticks :)

BT Option 3 :(

I was on option 3, out of contract, downloaded software to measure my usage and discovered I was only using 5-6 gb per month so rang them up, re-contracted for 12 months not 18months, was given the new long range black hub and I also squeezed a hub phone out of them. I am now on option 1 up to 10gb usage and £13.99 (or was it 12.99 ) a month instead of £15.99,I was paying £26.99 for option 3!!.
The agent advised me to contact them again in 10 months to renegotiate a new deal and see what is on offer at the time.

Get a PAYG O2 Chip m8 and U will pay £7.50 per month for upto 8 MB and O2 is voted the best braodband supplier in recent polls :D

Ah, nice idea.
I'm going to ask a thicko question
How does PAYG broadband work, and if it's PAYG, how is it £7.50 a month?

Sorry :cuckoo:

A nice comparison would have been if people could have also included the monthly cost.

It would have to include the providers usage limits to get a real value of what the cost is for.

This is what I get for 'up to 8mb' I've noticed in this thread a lot of us are on Tiscali, yet they don't get the best of reports around the web.

This is what I get for 'up to 8mb'

My father is on the Isle Of Wight & with BT.

He was called & offered an upgrade of 'Upto 10mb).

He asked if they could guarantee 10mb & the sales person said no.

They sent engineers out to check the hardware & they reported that
even though they could supply 'Upto' 10mb,the cabling etc could not
support anymore than 2mb :bonk:

It maybe be worth you all getting your hardware checked out before
paying for any upgrades

Virgin..

BT Option 2 - Not worth paying anything more as too far from exchange to get a decent speed.

I pay £26/month for my service, and it has fairly strict daytime usage limits but I'm at work all day so doesn't tend to bother me - I just do my downloading overnight! Fantastic pings, which imo is more important than having fast download speeds.

I recently went on a trial for ADSL2+, and actually lost 2meg and my line was dropping 2/3 times a day. I've switched my router back to ADSL1 mode and it's sync'd at just under 6meg and is solid as a rock.

Impressive for an 8 mb AOL service? I've been known to reach 12 mb at times.

Which it did when I tried the next nearest server . . .

Mine has jumped from about 700kb/sec since having a filter thingy added to the main BT socket.

Whats the relavence of Maidenhead being on alot of peoples server. I live in
Maidenhead and probably have the slowest speed on this forum:(

Dean:)

Live probably a mile and a half from the exchange, but living in the cultural backwater that is Crewe, I don't think our phone lines are up to much. My mate lives about half a mile from me, on a newer housing estate, and only gets half a meg.

Been getting 3.5 mb lately, just come back in to find my speed down drastically.

Like watching paint dry at this speed:thumbsdown:

eclipse.....not the cheapest, but sooooooo stable and reliable

I'm getting 4.1 meg per sec and 400 kb/s upload at the moment...

It continues to get better, now profiled by BT at 4mb:)

Apart from the previous hic-up which, I am told, was probably because were doing some work at my local exchange.

Not the cheapest but I'm happy with the service and it's sooooo much better than the Orange BB i had before.

Compared to what I used to have a few months back my present speed is mega fast but I can't imagine what it would be like at those speeds posted after my previous post:eek:

i got sky base runs @2meg all day everyday.
