I have tried many bags for the 500f4 and 600 f4. Do you mean a 500 prime or zoom as they are very different beasts.

The lenstrekker 600 is a good bag but limited in its carrying ability. I had 2 and if its just the lens and camera its well worth a shout.

For a 500f4 there are loads of options. Do you plan on walking a lot with it? Do you need light weight or maximum protection?

some walking yes, main lens would be the 500mm Prime but wanted to fit maybe another lens and body, ive seen the Manfrotto Pro Light TLB-600 PL would be up to the job??

I have this bag but be warned it a big b****r lol !
It just fits my 600 with D810 in and fitted the 500 really well too! I tried a few others in the shop like the think tank one etc, but this was a lot better made and holds the lens really well
The only downside is there not a lot of room for much else maybe a couple of small lenses as the 500/600 with body attached take up so much room? You could fit some things in the top but there no padding in that bit? I did have some pics but photobucket decided it not working once again! I am glad I only have the free one it always offline lol!

The below thread gives a few ideas with their sizes as well.I started the thread a long time ago when looking for a bag for my 600f4. I now use 2 different bags. A MrJanGear bag which takes everything you throw at it and is very very strong, not well known by many but superb quality. My other bigger bag is the lower Flipside 500- lightweight and can at a push take the 600 and some more gear. Lightweight so easy to use when climbing the hills.
