Yes
What aspect ratio do you print images out at? The standard ratio for on screen is 3:2 however I always think it's a little long when printed. Is it fairly standard to crop images to 3x4 before printing (so getting 16x12 instead of 18x12)?

Personally I print according to the size I want rather than the aspect ratio. Prior to printing I use the crop tool to get the right dimensions in cm or inches.

Hope that helps :)

What ever makes the image. Sometimes is square ( not a lot of the times, ) sometimes it's
long and thin. To make the picture I think you need to stop thinking of standard ratio's and look at the result you want to achieve, and crop to that. OK you can get a lot of white border, but better that than have a good or even great image become mediocre

Yeah, then you just chop the white border off on a guillotine.

I crop to what I want in LR4 or Photoshop and then just print to the size I want and cut of any white borders afterwards.

I crop a lot of my images, favourites being square, 5x4 and 2x1 (normally find 3x1 too thin) yet a lot are still 3:2. Yet people always seem to mention 16x12 on here rather than 18x12 which is why I asked the question.

While I like the idea of just cropping to whatever you want it plays havok with creating sets when printing and is even worse if you want several photos framed on the same wall, even with custom frame jobs!
