What are your "Best film camera under £... aspiration " buys

So to all intents and purposes my virtually mint Canon AE-1 program and AE-1 are both virtually worthless in terms of cash?!:(

Both excellent cameras in their day, and still very capable indeed, but very little cash value now. Just enjoy them.

I pretty much missed the bonanza of cheap film gear when digital surged ahead, because I was in SA and there was no glut of cameras coming onto the market. Used film body prices dropped, but not to rock bottom. The best deal I was offered was for a mint (unused) Nikon FA at a dealer. I agreed to buy it, but he was selling on consignment and said he had to check with the owner. Called me the following day and explained that they'd had it for more than 6 months without any interest, but the owner now wanted a lot more than the asking price on the ticket. I turned it down. No regrets.

I'm a cheapskate, and I love a car boot, so... the most "expensive" film camera I have was swapped for a Tomtom I didn't use any more!

Ah! most of my gear is from boot sales and it ain't rubbish..printers from 20p, scanners £2, lenses from £1 to £4...... up to as new kiddies bike for £10 that cost £125 new. But the giant boot sales have gone downhill because of eastern Europeans? (or whatever the language is they speak) who get there about 6:30 to 7:00 and snap up stuff before I get there at 8:15, so I get the stuff that they miss or don't wont (usually just film camera bodies). Anyway I now prefer the smaller boot sales that haven't been invaded.

We get up pretty early to get to them about 7am... where we are it's unlikely you'll find a pristine M6 for £20 but I still live in hope! My favourite camera, a Cosina PM-1, was 3 with 2 lenses from a car boot. Also picked up a Fujifilm Tiara for the same price, which is a great little camera.

I'm quite good at haggling after going to boot sales for at least 30 years ;)

Well - for the stuff I've still got in my possesion...

Under a tenner - Fed3a (99p plus postage came in at JUST under the tenner)

Under £25 - Canon A1 + a bunch of lenses (Actually Swapped for 5xA4 framed prints, which probably cost me about £12 all in)

Under £50 - Voigtlander Perkeo I (think it was just under the £50 from fleabay plus postage) - with a stuck shutter or it'd have been nearer double the price

Under £100 - Probably my Yashica 109 when I purchased it new back in 1989 or so...

Under £200 - the EOS3 body. (Bearing in mind it's teamed with a bunch of L glass that does double duty with the digitals it's only fair to give a body only price.)

Over £200 - The Bronny ETRS, 40mm f4, 75mm f2.8, WLF and a couple of 120 backs would probably fill that slot.

Mmm tricky to remember now, I've had soooo many cameras.

I think my best buy was £17.99 for a mint Ensign 16-20 but £4.99 for a Minolta Hi-matic II was quite good as well. Under £200 my Mamiya C330f with 2 lenses, paramender and grip for £165 I think. Under £50, Voigtlander Bessamatic CM with 50mm lens for £49 and under £100 Yash Mat 124g for £85.

Still looking for a Rollieflex for under £200.......:D
