What are you missing?

No
I'm quite happy with my set up. I love both my bodies and my lenses, but what am I missing?

I miss a bit of length. The longest I have is a 70-200. I'd really like a 300mm F4. I'd love a 4/500mm, but realistically that isn't going to happen, so a 300mm would be nice.
Other than that I think a 16-35 would finish my collection, but I really can't justify it.

So what are you missing?

I don't have a second body atm. I recently sold my Fuji X100s, which was my out and about side-cam really. I might buy something like a D7100 as back up sometime in spring, if the jobs I'm due to shoot late spring/early summer go ahead.

I'm all good for lenses, don't have a wide angle, but haven't felt the need for one either. I sold my 24-70.

I currently have a 35 1.4, 85 1.8, 150 2.8 macro and the 300mm f4.

I might sell the 150 to fund a back up body and buy a cheaper macro lens. Something like the 60mm 2.8 D which I owned in the past, and found it very good.

500 or 600 f4 but can't justify the cost ATM :(

I think we're always missing something right? I have a variety of shorter lenses but when it comes to the longer reaching ones, I have to say that being able to hire them is the greatest thing since I normally only use standard zooms its much more cost effective to rent anything bigger.

The kit I'd like just isn't going to happen.

What I'd like is a range of compact AF primes, zooms too, with full time manual focus, end stops and distance and DoF markings but what we get these days is either huge bloated lumps or fly by wire abominations.

Well 2013 has seen me re-arrange my bag so that there's nothing missing, save maybe the odd filter here and there. 2014 will see the cash spent on courses to polish my technique and improve my portrait work :-)

It's easier to type out the kit i'm not missing :(

I'm tempted by the sigma 120-400 or similar for motorsport events and I' like something to replace the 18-55 canon kit lens but haven't figured out what would work for me best yet :(

Money!

The "suggestion list" as per date...

Nikon DR-5 angled viewfinder
Nikkor AF-S 28-70mm f/2.8D IF

Nikkor 300mm f/4
Nikon TC-14E II

Nikkor 135mm f/2 DC
Nikkor 80-200 f/2.8 AF-S

Sigh...

A UWA lens at the moment. I want to get some star photography done.

The only thing I am missing is a macro lens.

You could get a cheap legacy one :D I have an old Sigma 50mm f2.8... it's great. You don't need an expensive modern AF macro lens as you'll me using manual focus :D

I'm about fully set up for now, I have all FL from 17mm (17-40 f4L) to 500mm (Sigma 150-500 OS) on a 5D3 and lots in between and the same lenses on a 70D giving me the equivalent of 27mm to 800mm. I would like to change my Sigma 24-70 f2.8 EX HSM for a Canon 24-70 f2.8L MkI, or the Sigma and a Canon 24-105 f4L IS together for a Canon 24-70 f2.8L MkII, early next year though as I think that would improve my overall set up.

OP, I got a Canon 300mm f4L IS from MPB just before christmas and the IQ from that on both of my bodies is fantastic. It also works quite well with converters, a 1.4x still gives very good IQ and fast AF but a 2x gives good IQ but very slow AF on the 5D3 at f8. I don't think it's really long enough as a wildlife lens for a full frame body but it's good on a crop. I can also use my 70-200 f2.8L IS MkII and 2x converter for a bit more reach and I know I get great IQ and good AF speeds with that.

Just a few lenses

Canon 16-35 f2.8
Canon 24-70 f2.8
Canon 50mm f1.4

Flair!

Anything else I want or need, I buy!

Two Lastolite Ezyboxes (softboxes), for my two 430EX ll Speedlites

A set of ND Graduated Filters, and Hoya Pro1 Digital 77mm Circular Polarising Filter.

All on my New Year's shopping list. :)

Am happy with my kit I was lucky enough to be able to buy my dream lens this year the 300 2.8
Can't think of any lenses that I need have also got 16-16 , 17-50 and 100 and 150 macro lenses
Have got a 7D which is great especially as now with the 300 2.8 I don't have to go above ISO800

Having just bought a Fuji X-E2 with kit lens, I now 'need' something a bit longer, perhaps the 55-200mm would do nicely. Plus maybe the 60mm macro.

Still selling some bits and bobs from DSLR kit, so, Dave, there will be some graduated filters and a 77mm circular polariser appearing in the sale section very soon! Hoya, but not the Pro1, though.

I'm missing;

-Sigma 8-16mm
-Tamron 150-600mm (which if it's not good when it comes out I'll be severely disappointed!)

id love the 8-16mm i did see the add about the tamron 150-600 in the ap mag it looks like its going to have good iq and if so i see the sigmas going down hill fast when the price of the tamron drops, im missing a good body

I pretty much changed my whole set up in 2013.
D7000 for a D7100 ( problems with the D7000 ). Sold a Tamron 17-50 VC ,Tamron 90mm,Sigma 18-200,Nikon 28mm D,Nikon 50mm D. Sigma 85 f1.4.

Bought a 35 f1.8G, 50mm f1.8G, Nikon 105mm 2.8 micro and a Sigma 17-70 C. and kept a Sigma 10-20mm. I am short on length now but i was doing very little over 120 ish.
I did love the Sigma 85 f1.4 but that had to help fund the new body and I do have the 105mm.

i've just spent my xmas cash on a sigma 120-300 2.8 + a couple of tele's so i could'nt be happier

Missing all that cash I once had before getting into photography :-0

In reality I am missing a nice set of 5x 600EX RTs with all sorts of modifiers or a nice portable studio light setup

Maybe a Sigma 35 and Canon 70-200 2.8 II if it has to have glass in it, but the above is probably a higher priority

I'm missing a long zoom. I've got 70-200 and 70-300 but nothing longer than that. I hope to pick up a 150-500/50-500/150-600 this year.

Happy with my kit - Lenses range from 16mm to 500mm -its the skill I'm lacking :p

I would like a long prime like a 300mm f2.8 and a TC but that's a pipe dream, unless I sell my Landrover 90 or My Jag :D:D:D

Les ;)

I can honestly say I am more than happy with the equipment I have at the moment.

At some point I will probably upgrade from my Tamron 70-300 to something a little better but I don't use it much so it's hard to justify the upgrade. I used to have the Nikon 70-200 VR2 which was a lens I really liked, but not sure I would jump for that one again due to the limited use I gave it.

Id like a 300 f2.8 but wouldnt relish the prospect of carrying 2 bodies and a 300 and a 500 so will stick with the 300 f4 as its a cracking little lens although a bit slow on the AF front.

Same here. Ever since going to a full frame camera ive missed the crop factor that ive been used to for the past 8 years.

The longest ive got is also a 70-200 but this year i plan on selling it to get a 70-300L. I had the non L 70-300 before i got my 5DMKIII but never really got on with it over 200mm.
To be honest i dont really shoot anything that demands a longer lens, but even so, i do hit 200mm almost every time i use it, and still crop in later.
I do have access to a 100-400 any time i need it but dont really like the size or weight (or the lens itself) enough to use it for walking around etc.
