Since I acquired my 5D2 and 7D, whenever I've connected the cameras to my computer I have used the USB lead which originally came with my 550D. Having now ferreted in the box for my 5D2 I finally unwrapped the USB lead that came with it and I see it has two of those black plastic capsule "thingys" along the length. I have had no problems whatsoever using the lead with no "thingys" so I am just idly wondering what they are and what they do.

Any electronics scholars out there?
 
they are called Ferrite Chokes, and are there to limit the amount EMI through the cable :)
