Yes
1 series, in all variants over the 5d then ?
I know the 5d is a 'semi pro' camera, and the 1 series is totally 'pro' spec - ie very solid build etc.
But, what advantages are there over a 5d - I know one of the 1 series can take 8 FPS, one takes massive pictures, and one is a 1.3 crop. I know one at least has loads of focus points, and one or more is much better a following focus, but is there a list or side by side comparison that anyone knows of ?
This is just idle curiosity as I failed to win the lottery last weekend, again, but what can you tell me ?

Bob.
It is easy to find things to buy, but not so easy to find the money to pay for them...

Thanks for the link - I'll have a peek

Are you still laid up bud?

Which one of us - I think you might find that both of us are currently sitting in our bath chairs, rug neatly draped over the legs, cardie's buttoned up and painkillers within reach..

Interesting reading, but why is it that it is ALWAYS the most expensive thing I want to own ?
Damn my lack of wealth !

DPReview has a side-by-side feature to compare specs of a hell of a lot of different cameras, hope you've got a wiiiiiiiiiide monitor though! You can see it here

I shoot weddings using a 1DMKiii and a 5D - the pros and cons for me are :

1D is better because ...

AF is much quicker than 5D, and the outer points actually work, unlike the 5D.

You can write RAW to one card and JPG to the other - brilliant as I can use 16GB cards without the fear of losing a huge part of the wedding if it corrupts.

Rapid shooting and a much bigger buffer

Superhigh ISO is better (1600+)

5D is better because ...

It's much lighter than the 1D - important if you're carrying two cameras all day

It has a better screen - the 1D screen is awful

It's full frame, lovely.

The files are fantastic, rich colours and a certain i-don't-know-what that the 1D doesn't reproduce.

It's shutter is quieter.

It's lighter ... did I mention that ?

Is there not a firmware update for the 1D screen?

my mrs uses a 5D proffesionaly. she borrowed a 1D a while ago and she agrees with all wedding hacks comments.
and the 1 is so much heavier that my mrs still uses the 5 and isnt buying a 1.
she has little hands dont ya know.
and she doesnt use a power grip on the 5 , again cos of dainty mitts.
oh and the 1 is a tad more expensive.
we have met quite a few pro wedding togs that run 5's in preference to 1's.
and full frame most definitely rocks.
i,m having a 5 too when funds allow.

Oooops, sorry guys, and get well soon............

But isn't the 1ds Mk111 full frame ?
This is all a total fantasy, but so far the biggest problem for me would be the weight and the cost of the 1ds mk 111.
I like the idea of a bigger (3") screen - the 5d has a 2.5" screen I believe, and the faster focusing would be great for low level situations.
Having 21megapixels would allow for some cropping too...!
Just popping out for a lucky dip now..

Yeah the 1Ds is full frame, the 1D is 1.3x crop which is quite a nice halfway house. I use a 1DmkIII but the weight doesn't bother me, it feels lighter than a 40D with grip & 2 batteries somehow. But maybe it's the fact that I don't use the 70-200 f/2.8 but stick to small fast primes that makes the weight managable?

If they can improve the 5D AF on the new version, the 1Ds is going to be pretty redundant ...
