My old samsung galaxy tab has just about given up the ghost now and so i need a replacement. I don't use them for much, mainly watching videos and previewing images from a wifi tethered camera. Budget wise about 350.

Not the answer you were looking for but how old is your Tab? Is it the battery gone?

Reason I ask is my 2 year old ASUS Zenpad's battery doesn't last a day now without running out of juice and I'm looking at a Tab as it's replacement. Unless someone knows where to get a new battery from.

its several years old. Even with a factory reset it runs like a dog and the battery doesnt last too long.

I have the nexus 7 ( second version) works well for what I need it for. The first version became very sold, so sold it and bought this one.

For your budget may be another Samsung or iPad.

Galaxy Tab S3 is supposedly coming out this month, should be decent enough and the 9.7in is rumoured to be 399 quid.

Once that launches you should be able to pick up a S2 within your budget, wife and daughter both have that model and its very nice.

I'm still using a Tab S 10.5, two years plus now and all seems ok, no complaints and think I will stick with Samsung tablets

My iPad air 2 just packed up and I've replaced it with a Asus Z500M.
It's a bit of a learning curve but it looks like an iPad and it's quick. Also just £299.

Battery is certainly not as good as the iPad, but should last a day or two with my usage.
Only thing letting it down are the colors. I don't think they are as good as the iPad. The images on my Flickr and Google images are far to garish and almost HDR looking.

I decided to switch from iPad because my son's has been playing up recently and mine just stopped. Both under 3 years old.

Kindle Fire tablets are available pretty cheap; I paid 70 quid for mine, with 16gb memory. I had a Galaxy Tab 3 but the Kindle is far better and much cheaper.

I'm still using a Tab S 10.4 which is getting close to 3 years old now. Did think of upgrading but screen sizes have got smaller so I've decided to stay put. Mind you, there is nowt wrong with it, battery life is still good and I probably use it for 2+ hours a day.
If I needed to upgrade I would spend the extra and stay with Samsung

Although it's just gone in for repair, I have a Lenovo Tab 2 A10-70. Brilliant screen.

Not sure what the issue with the tablet is, but might be connected to it getting dropped a few weeks ago.

thanks peeps , just looking over reviews for the suggestions here :) Have apple reached the point where they let people drag and drop files onto an iPad plugged into windows yet? Thats the only thing really putting me off getting one.

Oddly, I have this very morning purchased a Lenovo Yoga 8 and case from Argos to replace an 8" Samsung whose battery holds as much charge as a tea strainer! My main use for it will be as a viewer for films on flights so the built-in stand and 12 hour battery life (along with its £99.99 price tag!) helped me make the decision. Mrs Nod has had the older version for as long as I have had the Samsung and has had no problems with it. Slightly odd shape with the bulging battery compartment but that makes it more comfortable to hold in portrait orientation, even if it does make it a bit bulkier.

This will probably happen at the same time that Canon and Nikon lenses become compatible.

However is it easy to get most types of files onto an iPad these days.

I have the Samsung S2 8inch version just for occasional use and it is very good.
bit pricey like and i have the 4g version with a 12month payg 3 sim in it.
mainly used for sitting in the pub with a nice pint of black dragon reading the news.

Why would you need to drag & drop them onto the iPad? Store them on something like Dropbox and they're available over all devices

In which case you can always download from dropbox to your tablet, that way you have a backup in the cloud and a copy on the tablet, that you can view offline

Sometimes great, yes. But it is less simple, as it would need removing from the cloud again afterwards if it is of temporary value. Or you can leave it, and let junk build up. So less useful if you just want to do a direct exchange of something quickly.
Horses for courses.
