What are my lens options?

I currently have a Nikon 70-200mm f2.8, Nikon 50mm f1.4 and a Nikon 18-200mm f3.5-5.6 and I am very happy with all 3 lenses however I would like to get something in the 17-35, 17-50 or 24-70 range. The one thing I definately want is a constant f2.8 and decent auto focus performance.

I know the real answer will be to get a Nikon lens but at the moment my budget won't stretch to it so I was wondering what my other options are? What are the best performers in this category of lenses? Tamron or Sigma or anything else?

I'd like to keep my current lenses and add this to the kit bag but if needs be I'd trade in the 18-200mm which I'd value at about £350 so any new lens would have to fit in around that budget.
 
The Tamron 17-50mm f2.8 has been getting very good reviews and it's within your budget, definitely worth looking at.
I'm thinking about getting one myself.

Thanks guys. I've just looked up a couple of reviews of the Tamron 17-50mm and they seem very good. I've also just done a quick search on ebay to see what the used prices are like and there are currently none available at all. Is this a brand new lens that hasn't made it on to the second hand market yet or are they just so good that no one ever gets rid of them?

It's been around a while now.

There are a couple of versions, the older one which relies on the Nikon body to AF the lens and the newer version with a built-in motor. Both are good lenses, the older one being quicker to focus.

There is a brand new version coming out with Tamron's version of Vibration Reduction built-in (FWIW I can't see the point in this...may just be me).

The cheapest new one I found is at one stop digital;

But I'm not sure what they mean by "Nikon Mount with Built-in Motor." I don't know if it's the newer one or not. :shrug:

I've seen a few for sale here on the forums and most people only seem to sell them because they're upgrading their camera body which uses a different mount or has a full frame sensor, etc.
 
I would suggest Sigma 18-50mm Macro because it is easy to get a second-hand macro but no motor copy for less than 150 quids. or if you like, a new motor copy could be around 290 quids from UK shops or 260 from HK.

If you would like to consider Tamron, the new copy with VC should be better but also more expensive.

70-200mm is great, no doubt. But if you use the standard zoom more, maybe you consider to sell it instead of the 18-200mm VR.

It is still up to you. All of these three lens you own are great. You can just buy a standard zoom lens with enough budget. or a second hand can be considered.
