Below is a photograph of my laptop keyboard. I can see it's not the perfect photo and I imagine this kind of photo has been taken many times.

I can't work out why the key nearest the lens is blurred. I would like to have all the keys shown in this photo clear.

I'm a beginner to photography and am only just getting to grips with all the settings on my Canon EOS 350D.

If I have put this in the wrong thread, feel free to move :)

Logic, it's called depth of field.

The greater the depth of field the more of your photo will be in focus. You control the DOF by changing the aperture of the lens, making the aperture smaller (a larger number) makes the DOF greater. By using Aperture priority mode on the camera it will slow down the shutter speed so the exposure is still correct. You need to make that as you use a smaller aperture (larger number) the shutter speed is fast enough so you don't get camera shake.

Thank you! And thanks for the link *adds to favourites*

Your not doing anything wrong the blurry effect on the camera is called shallow depth of field. This has happened because when you took the shot the aperture was set on a wide F-stop.

For some basic camera lessons go here. It tells you all about how to use shutter speeds and aperture and all that Jazz. Its a good site so bookmark it.

You beat me! :(

also if you are using auto focus it focuses to what i thinks it can do but you will find that in manual you can focus its a bit closer. I got a 350d...

WOO! Join the 350D club :D

I'm just getting the hang of the manual focus

And thanks for the other link! Links are just flying in now!

I can't really add to the advice already given but fwiw I actually like you shot the way it is, the DOF really works and adds interest imo :)

Ahh thanks very much! :D

Now then... let me see all of your keyboard shots! :p Don't tell me you don't have a keyboard...
