Interesting blog from Vincent Laforet here http://vincentlaforet.wordpress.com/

This is the gear he took to Beijing

OMG I wonder what bag he uses ;) thats a serious selection of kit ...drooling.

Sean

surely he needs a "caddy" with that gear lol

I'd volunteer!

Thats completely absurd.

When will he need all that kit?

It's just ridiculous. Completely extortionate.
I would assume what he does - before each event he'll decide which lenses he wants to use to get the required shots, attach them to the 6 cameras he has, put each one on the specific mode, and switch between each one throughout the show. No chance he carries that kit with him.

I wrote that before I even bothered reading the post.
It was very intriguing and made me think twice about what I had written.
Awe inspiring stuff.

Thats an interesting read amazing how much planning goes into it, Id hate to think how much money worth of equipment is there and the thought of having to leave some of it unattended would be scary, in fact I think the whole event would be scary to cover.

Sean

He once had to leave a camera in position for a couple of weeks before an event? I'd forget where i put the thing!!

His blog is fab!

I've kept this as a favourite and I'll be checking it each day.

Thats a great find. Initially I did think "WTF" but then you realise that he is going cover every major sporting event there is in a matter of weeks.

Absolutely fascinating! I'll be looking at Olympic photos with a whole new degree of admiration and insight.

That was a fantastic read. Really down to earth.

A very interesting read. I too have bookmarked his blog and Newsweek's blog :)

I don't think I could even afford his insurance premiums :p

Insane! I could only dream of having that much kit, all those 1D's! *Drool*

WoW - can't think of any other words to describe it! A warehouse of kit in a few bags - that must be the mother of all assignments!

Great blog too - now bookmarked :|

Another win for Linux ;)

for f in *.jpg; do convert $f -resize 800x800 x$f; done

Finished before PS even gets started up :p

 Who said the commandline is dead :)

Wow, that's a lot of kit! I haven't had the chance to read through his whole blog yet, but a great find

 OMG I want to be his friend!

S'not as pretty, but it's pretty trivial to do that with ImageMagick on Windows too. I've got a script set up in my right click -> send to menu that resizes the selected images.

Just bumping this thread - I've been reading his blog over the last few days - its fascinating stuff - well worth looking in for anyone who's missed it so far.

Christ I had no idea how much planning is involved up to a year before the event.
The logistics of it all is ridiculous.
This is an awesome blog and gives us all a great insight into his manic world.
Fantastic read and a real eye-opener.

All the info for settings and which lens is written on the sticky label attached to the camera body cap, he cannot be at every event at once, so take all your kit then your ready for anything...

I have a similar set up in the car, they tell what does what.

Regards Mark.
