She is a wise woman ;)*

That's obviously where we differ, as my photographs are an extension of me. Otherwise, what's the point in taking photographs?...

(*the same applies to me TBH - my missus has me down to a tee)

I have something else I refer to as an extension of me

What a fascinating thread :D

So many differing opinions. And, do you know what, I think everyone is right to a certain degree.

I think the OP's intention was to highlight the need for insurance cover (albeit pointless in this particular case) but the wording could have been gentler.

My own view? The man's a prat. I do have some sympathy for him but he's learning about life, not photography, the hard way. Did he make mistakes? Oh yes! Were they of his own making? Too right! Was he naive? Supremely!

I just don't understand how people can leave their car unlocked, even for a few seconds. Maybe I'm fortunate in that I started driving in a country where it was common to get a ticket for not locking your car. I always lock the car when I get out - even that time I didn't bother with the hand brake :'(

This sounds like an opportunistic theft, where the thief walked past the car, saw a bag or something left on show, tried the door and got lucky,

had it been locked, unless the thief was determined, they may have walked away, either that or put the window through.

unlucky for the photographer in question, what ever the outcome.

Sorry I couldn't understand what you said.

He meant "is it though..." I think

as in we didnt see anyone criticisng the bloke who fell out of his wheelchair for not having accidental damage insurance - which isnt much different from not having theft cover

A personal item not being insured for accidental damage is not the same as £5k of business insurance for equipment that is going to be left in a car. The two are chalk and cheese

I think that we have all learned a good lesson here,
make sure the things you value are safely locked away

I value this thread ;)
