Went it my local town this morning to do a spot of shopping and had a look aound for a new lens for my sony a330. I popped into jessops and they were more than what i wanted to pay so i thought i would be cheeky and go into a cash creator shop a kind of pawn shop and asked if he had any dlsr lens and he said " i did have just before xmas, i had a box full but people were asking if they did this, did that and i never had a clue so i sold the lots for £25. After i was told that one of the lenses was worth £5000 so i'm not having any more lens"
What a numty? Pitty i didn't ask before xmas

I'm sorry but £5000 lenses don't just suddenly "appear" in boxes, Some body has to have parted with it. I'm almost 100% certian it will have been a stolen.

I agree, I suspect the guy in the Cash Creator shop was spinning the OP a yarn. I can't imagine they'd let anything go without knowing its true value. When they take anything in they have to give it a value, they have vast arrays of catalogues and check what the item is and an approximate value. so this does seem a rather unlikely string of events.

As said, I think the member of staff might have been spinning a yarn instead of simply saying they didn't have any.

EDIT: on another note shouldn't they have a duty to notify the local police of any high value items such as that. So that the police can check their records for stolen items in their (and adjoining) areas ? or nationally with a serial number ?

Like they'd be interested, that'd mean taking someone out of a scamera van.

Possible but highly unlikely, even charity shops have people who value stuff correctly.
