I come downstairs this morning to find my cats being put down. I took some pics, but im on the Wii atm so cant upload them :'(

Basically my cat was peeing everywhere in the house, so we took her to the vets. First the vet said she had a water infection. So they just gave her some meds. Then a week later the other results came back, and we were told she was diagnosed with kidney failure. So shes been slowly struggaling for about 3 months now, and she has just deteriated so much in the last few days its not been nice to watch at all, especially cos I love her so much, for the past few months all she has been doing is sleeping on me :'(

Atleast she will go peacefully rather than painfully

Put down as in.....put to sleep ?

That would be the one, I decided to go on my mums laptop and put some more info about her on.

Ah right, your parents already taken it to the vets, poor wee thing how old was it

She was about 12-13 so it was bound to happen, I just didnt want it to happen like this :(

I guess so :¦

So sorry.

It's never an easy decision to make but unfortunately it's part of pet ownership. Every animal is different but if the quality of life has gone it's sometimes the kindest thing. Try to see it as a final act of kindness and responsibility.

The very first cat I got after moving out of my parents was a rescue cat from the RSPCA and she had Renal failure. as hard as it was (she lasted a year with it) when it come to the time we had to put her down it was hard but I took some comfort in she hopefully had a nice comfortable year which if I hadn't taken her she wouldn't have had.

Still didn't help at the time but in hindsight its the kindest thing to do.

My Siamese - one of the most wonderful cats that have shared my life - had to be euthanased because of kidney failure a few years ago. He was 15. It's the final act of love, to end the suffering, and the last thing you can do for them. I was with him when he died, and said goodbye, but I still miss him.

Whats that poem about 'Rainbow Bridge' or something simliar ?

Just this side of heaven is a place called Rainbow Bridge.

When an animal dies that has been especially close to someone here, that pet goes to Rainbow Bridge.
There are meadows and hills for all of our special friends so they can run and play together.
There is plenty of food, water and sunshine, and our friends are warm and comfortable.

All the animals who had been ill and old are restored to health and vigor; those who were hurt or maimed are made whole and strong again, just as we remember them in our dreams of days and times gone by.
The animals are happy and content, except for one small thing; they each miss someone very special to them, who had to be left behind.

They all run and play together, but the day comes when one suddenly stops and looks into the distance. His bright eyes are intent; His eager body quivers. Suddenly he begins to run from the group, flying over the green grass, his legs carrying him faster and faster.

You have been spotted, and when you and your special friend finally meet, you cling together in joyous reunion, never to be parted again. The happy kisses rain upon your face; your hands again caress the beloved head, and you look once more into the trusting eyes of your pet, so long gone from your life but never absent from your heart.

Then you cross Rainbow Bridge together....

So sorry to hear of your loss. That is the worst thing about having pets - they don't live as long as we do. I'm guessing your cat has pretty much been around for most of your life. It's hard

Wouldn't it be so much easier if we did not get so attached to our pets, but that is why we have pets, they are family members and as such it is a great loss when their time comes.

I know how you feel having lost our 12 year old cavalier 4 months ago, that very same poem was kindly posted to me on here as well as the many comforting posts from Tp members, I found great comfort from them and hope you find the same comfort from this thread.

I'm sorry to hear about your cat but agree with those on here that have said that it was the kindest thing to do. I have had many dogs and cats and have had to make the decision many times to take them to the vets and have them put to sleep. It always hurts me but it is a final act of kindness.

Thanks so much to all of you, your posts mean alot to me, if someone can be so kind, could I email you the raw file format pictures of my cat on her last day with us? I dont have photoshop on my mums laptop.

Thanks again, its been a tough few days without her though :(
