I was lucky when I had cancer... so... so lucky and I live my life with that in mind everyday
 
Not necessarily. You could easily put it in text rather than giftcard format. Like you say, you need to watch out for expiry dates. Simply putting a suggestion across that you could use this idea to spread the cost.

I think the idea is that you buy them all at the start and they are unwrapped at monthly intervals.

Still a great idea, just watch out for any "use by" dates on gift vouchers or tickets.

Yeah that is one option... like a promise rather than the actual gift card.
