Hi all, I have taken a somewhat unexpected interest in photographing birds, and currently my longest lens only reaches to 200mm which doesn't get me a close as id like.

I should have about £200 to get something longer( ideally a 70-300).

I know the Canon 70-300 is meant to be good, but its somewhat out of my price range. I was contemplating a Sigma 70-300 APO?

Its for a Canon 40D.

Thanks.

I had the siggy last year and couldn't wait to get rid of it! Over 200mm it was very, very soft, (lots of other togs say this too) so you wouldn't gain anything at all over your present 200mm.
The Tamron 70-300 I borrowed wasn't much better either, so I bought a 55-250mm IS and still have it, it really is much better than the price sugests!
I saved up and got a 70-200mm F4L with extender and love it, but my 55-250 is still in the bag and I use it just as much!
So, save up and get the Canon 70-300, get the 55-250 now, or better still, save up LOTS more for the 70-200 L!

Hi
I bought a canon 70-300mm is on here for £220 and there's nothing to match it for its quality. Worth waiting a little while until you have the funds. Its sharp and the is is excellent.
