... are you loving the most at the moment?

On my 40D I am really loving the exposure check and the sensor cleaning that works when turning the camera off. Both have saved me loads of time

The exposure check (when it flashes the over exposed parts on a shot on the screen) is probably my favourite of the two. I never really used it before, and as a result ended up binning so many shots when getting home. I felt frustrated that I had missed shots because of it. Now I check before leaving the location that all is good with the exposure at least, and as a result I have found I have many more workable shots when it comes to processing.

The sensor cleaning speaks for itself I think?! I haven't had to do anything with my sensor yet, even though I am constantly changing lenses at the moment. With the 350D it was getting rather annoying, and I was worried about giving it a proper clean. At least now I should be able to put that off for at least another year

So what are your favourite little camera 'tricks' ?

Having picked up my 40D last night..... I can honestly say I haven't a clue, yet :D

Steve

And I am told that within your warranty period, Canon gets you one maintenance free which Canon does not advertise much and keep it quiet ;) but I may be wrong.............:(

The interval timer (ie take a shot every x interval) and the high-speed shooting :)

shutter realease, teh rest is down to you and the settings you choose to put it on.

The Off button/switch ... :suspect: ...

And the Off switch/button ...

Am I pleased there were only two Jo ... :D

Where mine seems to spend most of its time of late ... :naughty:

:p

liking the over exposure meter and the fast pic time(used a 4 year old canon P&S before this)

Ummm, Manual mode?

Seriously, I'm a 5D user, and frankly beyond the setting the thing to RAW and then having control of ISO, Aperture and Shutter speed, the rest is all manual. I don't even use autofocus.

Guess this makes me old skool?

Cheers,
James ;)

A Dust-Buster that actually works and the articulating Screen for when i'm using live view for macros on the tripod at low level.

The little exposure metre in the viewfinder when shooting on manual. I only noticed it on my D80 a couple of weeks ago and it's completely changed the way I shoot. No more switching between Av and manual for me!

Here's one I'd like to see and I'm sure would be possible.

Limited AF range so you can set a min and max range for the AF to consider, anything outside that range and AF stops. It would be useful for tracking moving objects in situations where the AF suddenly decides to snap to the background instead, etc.

1) Auto-ISO
2) Much improved AF

The combination of these two mean so much more time can be given to composition and consideration of subject, which means more keepers.

I like the DOF preview especially with the speedlites attached, the sounds from them is pretty neat too, and that's about it as I use manual everything pretty much most of the time.

Hey Jo

Mine cleans the sensor too when i turn it off :D

I would say mine is 1) When you turn it off and the sensor cleans itself. 2) The autofocus :D

I am loving the auto iso sensor and P mode on my/our D300...it was mostly click and go on our honeymoon...then I dropped it on some stone steps in Vienna!! :( ...the good news is that it survived! :)

One of the best features of the 40D is the flash AF Assist beam emit, you can use the beam to focus without firing the flash. Brilliant.

Also love the custom modes and customisable menu.

Well, you are not on your own, I'm in the dinosaur club too.
Like James I have a 5D and rarely take it off manual mode. Though I have been lured to the joys of autofocus because the kid and the dogs move too damn fast these days!

My two loves? On mine it has to be manual shooting and the exposure check. I know if I get those right I'm in with a good chance of getting a keeper or two.

My favourite trick on my 1dmk2 is having a button to focus with centre AF point and another button to use all of them instantly.
Makes such a difference sometimes to getting a good photo or not.

Having two wheels so that i can change settings easily, miles easier than me old 300d, probably have a new fave next week though, haven't tried much with custom menus yet...

Either you don't know how to meter, or there is something wrong with your camera if before most of your shots are over exposed.

As for sensor clearning, you can't beat the wet method. :p

Haven't found Exposure check yet and i've had it for a year!

Most used functions are AEB and the shutter! Sensor cleaning is handy but have had to remove a few big bogeys from the sensor but it's easy enough to do.

I don't care if a 50D is now available the 40D is fine for me.

6.5 fps....:clap::clap:

1. Index finger and thumb control for shutter speed and aperture,

2. P-mode to give you an idea about how to set-up your M-mode (if that makes any sense!!!)

The meter definatly.Makes a change from taking pic then looking to see if its exposed properly on my P&S.

I'm enjoying the shortcut buttons to bracket and change ISO at a whim on my D80. Good stuff, slowly starting to use more and more shortcuts.
