What £200 Upgrade?

Hey Guys

It's my 21st in a month and my friends have offered instead of each buying me something, to club together and get me something i'd get good use out of, up to the MAX value of £200.

What do you think would be most rewarding for me as an upgrade or addition to my camera kit. I'm currently using

EOS 450d
18-55 IS Kit Lens
50mm f/1.8
Tamron 70 - 300mm f 4 - 5.6
Manfrotto Tripod and Ballhead (this does belong to my brother though)
UV and CPL filters
Sigma EF 530 DG ST + Stofen

is your brother likely to take your tri pod back if not great if so then poss look at a new tri pod


the next question that anone will ask is what sort of photograpghy are you into is the main question
that way people can point you in the right direction
 
my brother does live with me, so i can definitely get away with using it for a while longer.

I was also looking at flash triggers but apparently none will work with the Sigma and 450d combination?

I'm new to photography, and haven't really found my comfort zone yet. I love exploring all different types. Is there any (actually worth having) studio lighting kits or macro lenses in my budget range?
 
Rather than a macro lens some extension tubes will allow you to do some macro work for a fraction of the price (especially if you are still experimenting) .

Unforunately as far as lenses go, £200 in the current climate won't really get you much.

Second hand you might just about be able to scrape a canon 85mm f1.8, 50mm f1.4 or simga 30mm f1.4.

I doubt you'd be able to get a zoom in that price range that is an improvement over your current setup
 
If that was my kit, I'd flog the Tamron lens and put the money towards a Canon zoom lens personally. I prefer Canon equiptment but that's just my opinion.
 
If you're relatively new to photography then the best way to spend £200 would be on a decent one day course with personal tuition to help you get the most out of the kit you currently own.

You could buy a tripod, or some other bit of kit which would eventually break or be replaced by something better or just shinier, but if you spent the cash on moving your photogrpahy forward you can always look back on that day as being a watershed in your photography.
 
You could get a secondhand Canon 55-250IS lens which is better than the Tamron 70-300 lens. There is a lens in the classifieds on this forum for £ 160. If the kitty has £ 200 then there is £ 40 left over.

Sell your old lens on and recoup another £ 80 ish. Together with the £ 40 left over then you can spend £ 120 on a Manfrotto 190XPROB tripod and head.
