Just looking through the for sale lists of Sony mirrorless bodies ( out of curiosity ) and most sellers are out of stock of the lower priced models .yes I know there’s a computer chip shortage ,but surely it’s this bad now ..
For way of interest I was looking at the A6000 models

The computer chip problem is real. During lockdown many companies canceled orders, other companies then bought up any surplus and the world hasn't yet caught up.
I know the car industry is claming to have a two year shortage and theres real problems getting new cars, those you can get come with whatever features they have, you often cant order XYZ package as they haven't got the chips for the other packages.
It's the same with washing machines. At least one company is now buying the chips they canceled at 10 times the original price after someone else bought them all up and the original supplier has a 12 month wait for new ones.

Sony 200-600.........just how big and heavy is that monster I wonder.....not to mention the £££££££££'s
not much more than the 100-400 in weight and price Dave , just a idea buzzing round my head

I keep looking at the A6xxx cameras but there are a couple of things that put me off, the lack of two top of camera dials for shutter and aperture controls, I know you use the back wheel but I don't like it and the 1/4,000 shutter speed limit. My MFT cameras shift seamlessly from mechanical to electronic shutter and back again and I'd like to see that and another top control dial before I could be seriously interested.

Not even looking seriously Alan ,saw one in use the other day and caught my curiosity

I’m using the Sony 200-600 Jeff and it’s not too heavy. As far as chips are concerned I thought Sony made there own!

Sony make sensors but I'm not at all sure they make much else. There'll certainly be a lot of standard parts that they buy in.

...and you're completely wrong.

Sony is a huge company with vast financial and manufacturing resources. They've been a major player in audio, video and other electronics and electro-mechanics for more than 70 years.

Mod edit that last sentence was not required

I think this begs the question, what is being doe with the original chips.

They must be being used to make something!

Checked again last night and although there’s no limit on the top models virtually all Sony cameras at the lower end of the market i.e the foot in the door models are on 60 day pre order . . Not sure if this is effecting other companies as well though

Get a 2nd hand Sony a9 Jeff + 200-600mm you won't look back :)

Apart from Oly + 100-400 being M4/3 and Sony being FF what am I missing here.

The 100-400 in FF terms is 200-800, the Sony is only 200-600.......200 shorter.

Doesn't seem to tally to me, what am I missing

Used a9 = £1600

Used 200-600 = £1200

£2800  :$

Many chips can be used in lots of different applications, as they are used in everything from cars to air fresheners and torches, body cameras, radios, the list is endless. Thats without the people who bought them to speculate and now want 10 times the price which may be the bigger issue.
