Random question..where is the wettest and the driest areas in the UK..... not Google answer but your personal experience....here in Berkshire it was really dry all summer.....and even whilst the rest of the UK is flooding we still seem to be pretty ok
 
I, too, think that I live in a rain shield here at this end of Kent as rainfall amounts has been generally average so far this winter. Mind you, when we had a run of very dry months up until two years ago resulting in water restrictions, it is that what prompted me to start the Great Meteorological Thread.
However, even the Folkestone Rain Deflector doesn't always work that well as I could remember the 150 mm of rain that fell in the space of two hours on the 12th August 1996. That was an exceptional event which flooded out parts of Folkestone - a place that rarely experience such issues.
 
Always seems to be raining in Preston and Basingstoke when I worked there/visited ...
 
Well Manchester has the title 'Rainy City' but we seem to have escaped the worst of the weather this last year!
Went to Nairn last year, and they reckon it was well above normal temp for quite a long period!
 
My wife lives in SW Scotland. Never seems to stop raining.........................and people grumble about their gardens needing more rain if there's a brief interval between the showers!
 
I asked our local ukip councillor and he said driest was a small village in east anglia and the wettest was Brighton. :-)
 
Dunno about the wettest or dryest but a few miles up the road from me we certainly have the coldest on record.
 
glasgow is got to be in the top 10 as one of the wettest
 
I've got a mate in Manchester that comes over here and he can not believe how carp the weather is in North Yorkshire :coat:

Without looking it up isn't Capel Curig (sp) in North Wales meant to be a bit damp. And the driest Maldon in Essex (I'm about 10 miles as the crow flies from Maldon and can vouch for the tropical climes!).

As a kid going out on work trips with my Dad during the school hols, the start of the M6 at the M1 end was always guaranteed a downpour and as far as I was concerned (being a southerner) the entrance to "up North" :)
 
I think the the driest places in the country (according to records) are Barling and/or Great Wakering which are about 3-4 miles from where I live in Shoebury.

It stands to reason the the whole area is fairly dry as it's one of the most easterly parts of the country.

I work around 17 miles west of where I live, I can drive through torrential rain on the way home from work but it's dry and remains so when I get home.

Our local cricket club normally plays uninterrupted games where many throughout the county are completely washed out.
 
Wettest has to be Inverness! or failing that possibly Fort William.
 
I used to go to Dalwhinnie a lot to fish. I thought it was a damned wet place (and windy).

Fort William has been one of the top wettest places in the uk several times. Although the one time I went there (walking the West Highland Way) it was in drought conditions, and they were instructing householders to put bricks wrapped up in plastic bags in toilet cisterns! It WAS a long time ago!
