FedEx like you to sign for a package so they can send a Customs bill a couple of weeks later. In my case I could show they'd guesstimated the shipping cost and they cancelled the charge
It's just about what I expected - the duty gets added to the cost price, then the VAT is calculated on the cost + duty, plus UPS added an £11 brokerage charge...
It does say a final invoice will follow where actual charges may differ from the estimate that I paid, but if they can't get it right first time after all these years, they must be bloody stupid...
With a TARIC code of 9006990000 (photographic flashlight apparatus > parts and accessories > other i.e. not for cameras) the duty rate should be 3.2% and you've been charged less.
The exchange rate for June was U$1.5649/GBP so the VAT looks OK if the shipping cost $125.
