And shock of shocks, I received fantastic customer service!

I popped in purely to try out a 600D to see how it feels in my hands, and ended up having a good 15 minute tog-chat with the guy behind the counter. Friendly and knew what he was talking about.

I mentioned that I was umming-and-ahhing between the 600D and a 5Dc and he said he knows someone that comes in often who wants to sell theirs, so he took my contact details and said he'd give them to the bloke when he's next in.

I'm really liking the 600D BTW, the last consumer grade body I picked up was a 400D and the build quality is much better with the newer body, it's fits my hands nicely too as mine are quite small, I can find the 40D occasionally cumbersome. I saw very little difference with the viewfinder either compared to my 40d, maybe a little smaller but no darker. The only thing I would miss is the multi-controller for af-point selction and the top LCD panel (I rarely use the scroll wheel).

I dont think the manager of that branch would be too keen on that- nice to see good customer service though

I am glad I am not the only one that feels Jessops can offer excellent customer service. I have been in many of their shops and bought bits and pieces and always found them helpful and often 'bend over backwards' helpful. It may be an area thing????

I had a few bad experiences over here with Jessops, the Lisburn and Belfast stores.

I like the Jessops in Ballymena though and the guy i usually see there actually has a DSLR camera which helps!

Good to hear they do actually have some
Good customer service!! I had a terrible time when I bought my 60D! if it was not for the offers that where on in the shop when I was purchasing my baby! I would have left! Trying to get me to buy needless items, straight away, may make their boss happy but not me! I will not shop their again! I have now located a local Merchant City Cameras shop in Glasgow! Takes time with you and does not try to get you to buy the whole shop ;-)!

I'm going to avoid Jessops altogether I think. The manager (I think) in Cambridge is as unprofessional as they come, blatantly berating the salesman who was serving me because he'd had to 'bother' the manager to ask about putting a discount through to match the web price. Miserable twit. In fact I turned to another member of staff and said "he's chirpy, isn't he".

My last trip there was awful, so much so that I actually wrote a letter of complaint.

Just got a £50 gift voucher for my troubles though so that's a couple of free memory cards at least.

Pretty good to me, I had to return my camera after a day of having it, and they swapped it straight away no questioning... Guess that it is the same story with any shop with numerous branches, it's completely down to the staff and store manager.

+1. For a store in an affluent part of the country, the Cambridge store is the worst I have been to. Dire and I have tried and been disappointed several times. Campkins have always been helpful though.

Jessops in Wolverhampton are really helpful. There's a girl that works there that is in the second year of my degree and told me I can get student discount on film and prints. She's also really hand to go talk to when I'm not sure of something!

Jessops Southend are very good and helpful, will spend time with you going through everything.

I popped into that one a couple of weeks ago just to keep out of the cold really while I was waiting for someone. The Jessops guy introduced himself as John (I think) and was still really polite even after I'd explained I was just after shelter and a bit of a nose :D

Was in Exeter branch today and manager Keith was spot on as was Alice who was there in the background and who was very helpful last time I went in. So for me Jessops visits are very positive.

:plusone:

got my first D40 there

all the staff seem knowledgeable - pleasant too

too much good used stuff in the window though....:D

It's a pity that the staff at some of these stores rather let the image of the business down. I have however had some excellent service and advice at all the Jessops I have been to in the London area right from the time of my entry into digital photography in 2001 courtesy of Jessops in Richmond who gladly accepted some of my old film gear in part exchange. While I don't buy much by way of major items from Jessops I've found my two local stores always welcoming and helpful.

Just thought I would add that in any basket, there are those good eggs too ;)

I use Jessops here in Derry and find them very knowledgable, helpful and friendly to be honest. Suppose it just depends on the people - you get @ssholes and saints everywhere!

Found the one in Brum to be fine, staff were happy to let me have a play with different cameras when I was looking for my first DSLR a while ago.

It's the same in the wrexham branch always helpful

+1 for Leicester for me. Bought my 3100 from there. My mate bought his 5100 from there and got good service.

-1 for Loughborough. Went in last week to ask about a camera for my wife, so much effort for them to check stock. That's after they finished having their natter after seeing me standing at the till waiting for them. Plus I was the only on e in the shop.

Just used Jessops online to order my new D700,they lied about delivery from the word go,saying 7 days then 3 then 4,eventually turns up 3 weeks later minus the free memory card.I am still waiting for that.Got fed up of calling their cs number so tried e-mailing,after 2 days get a response saying that due to high demand could i re submit my e-mail.
My wife wants a Nikon V1,might give Jessops a miss.

The main dislike I have found so far with Jessops is the fact they opt to use Yodel for delivery of products. If the delivery is missed opening hours of 10am-6pm isn't all that useful when you are occupied during the day. I have no issues with the local store so in future I think I shall route all my deliveries via Collect@Store.

Reserved the Canon 50mm 1.8 in Bath on Sunday, popped in to collect it and was surprised just how strongly they were trying to push the extended cover (£30 for an £85 lens!), after saying no several times he then moved onto lens pens, then one last attempt before putting my card in the reader... "so you do realise if you leave the store and drop it there is nothing we can do?". The whole 'experience' took about 10 minutes and wasn't in the least bit enjoyable.

I'm not very confident in those situations so it was a really uncomfortable experience, and my last one shopping in Jessops. The last time I bought something in store was in LCE in Bath, they actually talked to me about photography...how about that for a novelty!

What's a problem in a lot of high street stores. All they think of is commission. They make more on after-sale cover than on the actual item which shows in their customer service technique.

I went in to LCE in Plymouth today to pick up a Speedlite 540EZ and had a great chat about the days-gone-by of film with the guy behind the counter. :)

I can vouch for the Milton Keynes store, been in a couple of times and each time the staff have been helpful, the chap who actually sold me my 450d did me a blindin deal on it all as it was in a box that had been opened, as an ex-salesman myself I love being 'sold' and getting a deal and he did a great job.

Then when I was thinking about upgrading a young lady in there was super helpful too and we had a very sensible discussion and at the end she suggest I try hiring a lens first before committing so I could be sure of what I was buying.

Plus they do interest free credit... which is a real bonus when buying an expensive lens or body...

So they arent all bad.

In the shop near me Lord Street Liverpool not very welcoming !

I'll be going to see them next week to check out the 600d. I hope they will be accommodating, as i am new to all this.

I'm not so keen on the store in Coventry, was shopping for a bag and the fellow in there at the time didn't seem like he could be bothered! I ended up doing a C@S in Rugby and rather enjoyed that. The fellow in there was nice and helpful, actually told me NOT to buy some of their stuff :)

With regards to the commission thing, I worked for a similar company and they had abolished commission a while ago. It's all about meeting sales targets for the day, which was still horrible because you could get sacked if your performance was deemed 'poor'. Sadly it's those sales the companies need to stay afloat.

Excellent service from the store manager, david at Birmingham yesterday. I would happily have employed him. Very efficient and polite.

Kev.

I'm just back from Jessops in Dundee
Went in to price a 35mm for my d3100, shelf price of £190, then I read on here they match the internet price, so I phoned to confirm
Went in to get it, saving £30, and the salesman done it all for me (internet order) for shop collection
He was very friendly, knew his stuff and was a keen togger, happy to blether about all things related and pass on some tips
So, in short, big thumbs up for service and general feelgood factor of the purchase
