Wayne from what I have read. You have entered a Jessops with the frame of mind of testing the staff. Pointless maybe brought a little smile to your face possibly, airing it on the forum a bit daft and you know the answers why ask the question?

I have found my local store very helpful, their prices instore are terrible but if you order online and use a cashback site like Quidco, they are not far off the other retailers.

I think most people that visit Jessops are people looking for a good camera with limited knowledge similar to PCworld with the PC market.

In my local store i get the impression that some of the staff are there just for the job and sell what is the latest "HOT" camera but 1 or 2 seem to know there stuff.

Then you haven't read my posts very well, I have already said I went in to buy a lens, I had no intention of "testing" the staff, thats a job for jessops.
I wasn't just looking with the intention of buying off the net later, I wanted a lens that day for my son.

to be candid Wayne, its easy to read your posts in this thread like that. I have to ask myself why an experienced wedding tog, commanding £2k a day would need to go into Jessops for for advice - you must have had an good idea what you were after and known you were likely to be a more experienced photographer then the assistant?

Sorry if that wasn't your intention, but it does look as if you just went in there for something to gloat about afterwards

Hugh

No offense, but you sound like a bit of a ****.

You might as well have started that sentence:

"With all due respect"

and we all know what that phrase really means.

The quality of the sales staff I have spoken to at Jessops varies very conciderably. At the same shop on different days I have had great and poor advice re a 40d/50d. I went in with the intention of buying a 50d and was pursuaded by a very experienced shop TOG that I would be better off with a second hand 40d  and the following day at the same shop another sales assistant advised me to go for a 50d is it now had "is" built into the camera!!

So why did you ask the questions? If you were going to but a lens surely your not telling me you were going to be open to suggestions from them as you must already have a idea what you wanted.

Why should I work for £5.75 an hour

:nono: Min. Wages is now £5.80 as of 1 October 2009 for employees aged 22 and over. :p

Just started working through the rest of the thread... C'mon guys lighten up a bit its almost friday :D

Seems like a bit a of thread that was aiming to take the pee out of Jessops and ended up backfiring. You being a wedding photographer should know several people in any profession don't have a clue yet do the job anyway (not aimed at you BTW).

You did go in with the idea of testing staff. You are an experienced tog. You know what lenses you probably had on shortlist before you walked through the door, yet you still asked a sales assistant for advice. Yes they didn't know their stuff. Could have been new to the job and trying to be helpful as they could. Training is needed but that does not make any staff member an idiot. Just means the company have not provided the correct training.

The 2 grand comment didn't help you either and is just arrogant.

It's like me saying a weding tog who earns 2 grand a shoot doesn't know which lenses to buy for his camera and has to ask in Jessops to find out what to buy. Hahaha that must be a crappy tog who over charges.

Not the truth but easy to take from the truth.

Jessops Deansgate Manchester were brilliant for knowledge and customer service.

It fell victim due to the cut backs but more that the lease for the premises came to an end

It means what the speaker wishes it to mean. I didn't wish to offend him, but I did wish to speak my mind.

A professional photographer who has to ask a young assistant in Jessops for advice could be found seriously wanting. It would be like David Beckham going into JJB Sports and asking the young sales girl behind the counter for advice on which football boots to get. It just doesn't happen.

Anyone bragging about how much they earn whilst belittling others is arrogant. End of.

save your money come to our place and i'll willingly take it off you and some more and send you off feeling i've had your pants well and truely down and you'll have a feeling of thank me for doing it ..... he he he he he he
you might have wanted a lens but you'll love the tattoo machine you got instead and be thankful for it ....lol lol lol

I 100% agree. You obviously wanted to poke fun at a minimum wage employee who possibly only started in the job a matter of days/weeks ago and it has just shown an arrogance on your part. Jessops us no different from any other high street retailer. You even cap your arrogance with your £2k quotation.

To be honest I'm getting a little bored with the personal comments.:runaway:

Well what do you expect? You post a thread entitled “Went to Jessops today, always good for a laugh” and I’m afraid the laugh has backfired on you very badly.

I am not the only one to have read your thread and thought you were arrogant. Then on subsequent postings you bragged about how good you are and what prices you can command for your work, at the same time slating off those who have to work for minimum wages, probably because the can’t find any other job

You knew exactly what you were going to do in that shop. You are an experienced Tog, you know about equipment yet you still had to boost your over inflated ego by tested the skills and competence of the staff.

You should be ashamed of yourself.

Wow, all this anger on an internet forum, calm down all......

My god this is worse that Computer Geeks PC WORLD bashing...its boring.

Get over it and move on!

Haha PC World.

I went in there to buy a fax modem once and the guy told me you can't send faxes with a fax modem, and then proceeded to talk about his old job at Burger King :)

I expect pretty much the same at Jessops, if you want knowledge then go to the independent down the road.

I used to work at Argos many years ago and people expected us to know about everything in the catalogue. I'd literally read out what it says to answer their questions!

I consider slow.

Closed :)
