I've got an outbuilding, around 5 metres from my house. Inside it I've turned it into a mini office/play area, with my PC's, Xbox etc... Now I've been using wireless to connect my PC's, works okay.

I recently brought those ethernet plug things, Devolo ones, that run your connection through your house electricity cables or what have you. Works brilliant on my Xbox, fast as anything, no issues whatsoever.

I try to put it in my desktop, so I can ditch the wireless, Doesn't work. Just stays a local connection, I try repairing, no luck. Desktop is Vista, tried it on my XP netbook, my Windows 7 Laptop, allsorts of other computers and the like, no luck at all. Just stays local. Tried resetting router, all the usual rubbish.

Ethernet plug things. works fine on xbox, nothing on my computers. Any ideas? Oh and wireless works perfectly on everything.

check on your router that there is no reserved IP adresses and also check there is no bandwidth allocations or and blocked MAC adresses on your router, also try unplugging the xbox and putting the ethernet cable that was in the xbox to the computer, might be a porting issue.
