Did someone mention shiny latex? :naughty:

Cant think why, maybe they think its a duplicate username (ive seen that mentioned before).

There are some incredibly guys on there, dont get me wrong, i could point out half a dozen that are stunning, but 90% are just either copycat rehashes of everything else there, or complete tripe.

I wonder which side of the percentage divide I fall in?

the annoying thing is pretty much any person can go in with a model profile but it can take ages to get your photographer one approved.

Im sure you fall in the good percentage :)

To be fair, most of the "dodgy" ones appear to be in the alternative/goth or at home style stuff...... which annoyingly is also where the best ones are :) just that there are few good ones and loads of bad ones :)

But, its just my opinion, and i dont really know what im talking about :) from a technical "is it in focus, is it cropped right, are the colours and wb ok, is the lighting working" point of view then loads of them appear to be failing on a lot of those, but one mans meat and all that :)

And when you email them to ask why you've been waiting 5 weeks when they state it takes 24-48 hrs for approval you then get rejected. I then reapplied and was told in no uncertain terms that I wasn't welcome on their site. So they can stick it where the sun don't shine.

Strat, I totally agree there are some vastly varying skill levels on the these sites, but I don't believe they ever claim to be purely for professional photographers, and therefore that's reflected in the quality (or not) of the images.
I think you may have got the wrong idea about Purestorm, Mayhem etc, they're not there to provide galleries of the best model pictures. The sites are there to put models in contact with photographers and vice versa. The model may well write a glowing reference of the photographer, but that's not to say the images were any good, its just pointing out how they conducted themselves prior and during the shoot i.e. was communication any good, were they polite and friendly, or just a plain weirdo.

The problem that any aspiring photographer encounters is having to put up 6 minimum pics of different models.
If your only just putting your toe in the water so to speak, how do you get 6 good enough shots of good enough quality to pass registration ?.

If you don't have 6 then you shouldn't even be thinking about TFP ;)

ah.... but is that 6 different pix or 6 different models :)

Doesn't it make you ask the question "what makes a good photo?".
When you weren't into photography you thought the photos were good, now you're looking at the same photos with the 'photographers eye' that other togs have taught you. Why is the tog's view more correct than the vast majority of the public?
Just throwing the question out, not disagreeing with you that there are bad photos (although I haven't looked at the sites in question so can't comment on them specifically).

:) me too, not too worried either way - I put pictures there that I think demonstrate my abilities and that I love.

I do agree that Purestorm in particular is a mixed bag with some truly awful images and some absolutely stunning ones that inspire. Mind the same can be said of the models on their.

Now did someone mention latex?

I never put up 6 different models lol

It is a bit strange i admit, there are pix that i thought were good before but now dont like because i can see flaws i never seen before..... but does that make it a bad pic? I suppose it does techincally, though it did manage to "appeal" to me before....... i guess i had lower standards :)

I think im now comparing them to my own efforts and am looking at things that i now know are bad practice and its offputting...... but i have some pix i took years ago on a little HP P&S that i thought were good at the time, and now when i look i can only see all the things i did wrong (bad crops, rubbish focus), interesting all the same...
