Hello there, just a quick introduction. I signed up a few weeks ago but never got round to posting.

I entered the world of digital photography a few years ago and have been using a Fuji superzoom, but recently decided to take the plunge and bought a DSLR. So equipment wise I have an EOS550D, I got the kit with the 18-55 & 55-250 kit lenses, I also got a second hand nifty fifty and a EF60mm macro.

My next ‘investment’ will be an off camera flash setup, most probably starting with a Nissin 622 (to have at least some TTL capability), some triggers and a stand and possibly add another flash later. Then maybe a slightly wider prime than the 50mm, which can be a little long on a crop body for candid stuff indoors, maybe the EF28mm? Or a slightly wider range ‘walkabout’ type lens so I don’t have to carry the two kit lenses.

Subjects wise, I will mainly be taking pictures of my family, thankfully my wife and daughter are both infinitely more photogenic than me. Also the odd landscape / building shot as we recently relocated to the Netherlands so want to capture the sights for family in the UK to see. My main hobby is fly fishing, and associated with that I tie my own flies so will be photographing them for posting onto a forum, hence the macro lens.

Post processing is definitely a weakness of mine. I have a copy of CS4, but only know the basics. I have a decent understanding of curves and the other adjustment tools, but the use of layer masks and in particular blending modes is a bit hit and miss!

I’m sure I’ll have lots of questions in the near future. So until then, all the best - Steve

Welcome Steve from a previous expat who has returned to the fold:bonk:

Hi Steve,

Welcome to the madness that is TP

Shoot, post, get shot............not really mate, it is a great place to learn.

Where abouts are you in NL? We've lived in Germany, near the Dutch border in the Roermond & Venlo areas, over the years. Love Holland, such a relaxed country.

Get some pics up & start enjoying the site.

Mick

Thanks for all the messages,

As soon as I take anything with even a tiny amount of artistic merit I’ll post it up! I’m still getting to grips with the camera and making loads of mistakes at the moment.

Mick, we are near Eindhoven, it’s not exactly the most picturesque part of the country, certainly not as nice as Roermond (we’ve visited there a few times because my wife lived there as a child). Architecturally it’s all grey and concrete with very few buildings older than the 1940’s thanks mainly to the bombings during the war.

It is relaxed here as you say, which is a good thing for the most part, but if you actually want anything doing it gets really frustrating.
