While seraching for 35/50mm lens I came across this one on ebay and had to laugh at this sentence:

The lens is in superb condition - there is just one thing you need to know about the front lens cap: I really dislike the chrome-imitating Nikon logo across the front - so I habitually sand it off all my Nikon lens caps. Just a personal thing I guess. So if you like your lens caps unsanded please factor in buying yourself a new one when you think of bidding.
 why would you go to the bother for the sake of a cap.

Wonders what else he likes sanding

Hope he doesn't find his lenses too contrasty and sand off the coatings . . .

Well I personally hate coated optics, they really irritate me, so I sand the coating off all my lenses

Don't forget the sanding required before applying the Max Factor Knacker Lacquer.

Wonder if he sands the name off the camera too.

He knits a cover for his TP camera strap. I'm told...

Why not just paint over the silver? I would not want to risk leaving some residue from the sanding in the workings of the cap somewhere to find it works it's way into the lens at a later date....

I know a lot of people that put black electrical tape over all logos on their camera equipment. I've done it a couple of times also, not really sure why.

At a guess - to stop theives immediately recognising that you have £XXXX around your neck. IMO, theives know what they are looking at anyway...

It kind of makes sense to not advertise a camera bag as a camera bag, but even then - lowepro and the like are quite easily spotted, and anyone who has seen you put something in or take something out of the bag will know what's in there...

Just inverse snobbery IMO...
Anyone who cares already knows what it is anyway...

Used to be a fad with pro Fleet-Street toggers - though it actually came about from pro's marking their different camera bodies with different coloured electrical-tape to identify which film was in which camera...

Some thought this was 'cool' and copied them...some people I knew at college even went as far as to carefully sand some of the black paint off their camera bodies to make them appear more 'rugged'...lol
