Your photographs are freaking garbage - the 5d is garbage.

Er, that's it.

Anyone else ever received an out-of-the blue crit like this?

Lol, nope, cant say I have.
Obviously someone with a very busy social life!

or if feeling less gentlemanly sign the email address up to a few adult websites mailing lists

Nice! I trust you will now give up photography and sell the 5D at a greatly reduced price :naughty:

Right my first thought is check out any forums you use for anybody you have "clashed" with shall we say, chances are it's somebody whos been upset by something, that or a mate having a laugh.

Edit I thought yahoo uk address were .co.uk?

A few years ago I did receive a email out of the blue (but folowing a robust discussion on another forum) which said

" you are a fake, a liar, and a fraud, the time is fast approaching where you will be exposed for the clueless charlatan you really are "

charming

Its very sad when people feel the need to do that kind of thing - do they really think anyones going to give a toss about the beliefs of someone who doesnt have the courage to sign their name :cuckoo:

Reply with "Well your mum liked the camera when I was taking naked photos of her!"

And forget about it :D

Possibly someone on skyscrapercity.com didn't like my pointing out that a Creative Commons Attribution Non-commercial licence is not the same as there being 'no copyright' on an image and that you actually have to provide an attribution for the photographer, not just 'flickr', but that discussion was fairly gentlemanly.

I'm considering the latter proposition.

The thing that bugs me is the suggestion that the 5D is garbage. :D

Yes, that 5D is garbage, you should get rid of it... I'm sure I could take it off your hands for you :D
Just sounds like a bit of jealousy to me, I'd ignore it if I were you.

Why did he single out the 5D:shrug: Everybody knows all Canons are crap.

:D;) Just teasing

I doubt it will be someone from a forum as you can't see people's emails on forums.

LOL I was waiting for that.

Seriously though, the internet is full of keyboard warriors and people hiding out in their parent's basement. Anyone with an email address is a potential target, like making prank calls to people out of the phone book. It could be someone who disagreed with you on a forum, but it may be totally random.

Yes you can, all depends on the forum and what its got its settings as.

Very strange musicman and don't forget:-

"Never argue with stupid people, they will drag you down to their level and then beat you with experience"

:-) Very happy with my 5D as well :-)

Yes I also need a new paper weight so I'll happily give you a tenner for it ;) (I wish)

There are other ways of doing it, too, but personally I would just ignore it and stick a block on that address.

When I started photography I used pbase to host my online galleries and one day I had a series of personally insulting comments written on several of my pictures comments pages by an anonymous poster. Whoever it was obviously knew me in realife but was too cowardly to say who they were. I'm quite successful and well known in my real job so I presume it was jealousy driving the comments. PBASE don't log ip addresses of anonymous posters! so nothing could be done except to change settings to only allow registered users to post comments. I did that and never got another piece of vitriol....I can only hope for that persons sake that in the intervening 5yrs they grew up.

It's mildly annoying when it happens but as they say, you can't please all of the people all of the time.....

I got a string of similar comments on my blog a few years ago, just deleted them and who ever it was got bored. Some people do seem to have nothing better to do with their life than surf the web handing out abuse. Have to feel sorry for them really.

I had a lot on my blog at one time, all in Chinese though . Sadly I speak nearly as much Chinese as I do Martian so it didn't work.

I've been examining SMTP headers for, oh, fifteen years. :) That's how I figured it was sent from a UK IP address (Virgin Media as it happens).

I had the from: address, just redacted it for posting here.

I ahve had equaly bad and even more nasty PM messages sent on TP from total starngers i havent even spoken to on TP .. The sender of such emails or PMs obviously think it will ahve some terrible effect when you read it.. yeagh right :)

I've had stuff like this not relating to photography but to game mod development. It's not all that big a leap from being a numpty on a forum for those who engage in such things.

its probably some kid, its certainly not a grow up

I love your faith in humanity but I'm afraid it's misplaced.

mind you anyone who sends drivel like that can't be regarded as a grown up regardlss of how old they are

Yup.. my first reacation to anyhting like that is ..."grow up!" I think most of us would say that :)

Yeah you get nutters all over the place, not just on the internet.

We had our 20 week baby scan Friday, I was really peeved we couldn't tell what the sex of the baby was due to its position so was in a real bad mood. Driving from the hospital to McDonalds for a shake and a taxi goes passed. Hanging out of the window is some guy flipping us the bird.

He gets a hand gesture back, at which point he grins and sticks his thumb up and goes back inside. Traffic lights on red, taxi in front and his door opens about 3 inches. With the mood I was it wouldn't have ended well for him but must of changed his mind.

There was no reason to drive passed swearing at us, he was just an idiot!

I had an e-mail sent to my flickr e-mail account from someone demanding the "EXACT" map coordinates of all my photographs "ASAP". As I've got 4,800 pics on flickr he's got no chance.
