Weird ebay questions

So I think this is in the right section, if not please move!

I'm not a big eBay user at all, I'm selling my old D200 and I've been getting strange questions from a user on there. The first was asking the usual questions about the camera and whether anything came with it, perfectly normal except all that information was in the listing. Being polite I replied with the answers to all his questions without making any mention of ALL THE INFORMATION BEING IN THE LISTING :lol:

Now he's asking for pictures of the camera from the front, back and top to be sent over to him (all those pictures are in the listing too, all well exposed and in focus to show the camera clearly) and one from the camera to prove the shutter etc. The last bit seems legit because it's exactly what I did when I bought the camera, at the same time I'm afraid he's looking for proof of him owning the camera. The asking of pictures etc seemed alittle suspicious, is he planning on using them for a scam listing, or just after a closer look? Is winding sellers up with daft questions a jape that I'm not in on?

I'm naturally suspicious as it's the second time I've listed it in as many weeks, the first time ended with an attempted scam on me which has got my back up!

Any thoughts? :)
 
The only thing that strikes me is that he is trying to convince you just how interested he is before asking for some strange delivery requirements...if that happens.. run! :) anything however slight that varies from the way it should be done then beware

however sending him the pics...no harm.. he might be genuine.. just stay on yer toes :)
 
Sadly I have tried selling it on here on 2 separate occasions and never really got any response, so went to eBay for a wider audience :) I would much prefer to sell it on here but it wasn't to be this time.

I'll stay on my toes definitely, I'll send over the pics in the hope he wants to bid it up and that he just wants a closer look :) if I get one more request to send to west africa however I think I might ragequit and delete my eBay account forever :lol:
 
Not knocking ebay.. it's great if you know how to use it.. I have been on it for 11 years now.. Never had a problem.. only buy from reliable sources and only sell to the exact rules.. works perfect .... But theres a lot of cons about and you do ahve to be carefull. if you are then its a great place to do business IMHO :)
 
"Can'tbebotheredtoreaditis" is all too common. My wife gets 2 or 3 calls every day from people who say they're looking at her website but want to know when a certain class is and if it's suitable for all people. Being polite, she always gives them the information and has yet to tell them to RTFWS!!! (All the information is there on the schedule page, as are clear instructions to 'phone the teacher whose class they're interested in for more information!)

A lot of the time I ask seemingly daft question on ebay, especially in a thread that really has all the information and no need to contact the seller...My reason for doing so...see how responsive the seller is, whether he/she is friendly and polite, try and get a feeling as to whether they are real...

Don't know about your listing, however I also request picture as a lot of the time the photos are just too small...Especially when on a large high resolution monitor it can be a right pain to see some items...
 
Maybe suspicious in case your ebay pictures are not of your camera but saved somewhere?
If you can send a couple at much larger size that seems less likely.
A good camera is a large purchase so a keen bidder has every right to be cautious.
